Fun and Games
We definately were a close group! Who thought you could fit eleven people into a 3 man tent. Hello all! Quickly... I have been given a new nickname... Cataway! Fast intro to Fraser...Fraser Island is a world heritage site. It's the largest sand island in the world. It also has a rainforest, beautiful crystal clear lakes, huge sand dunes, view of sharks and other sea life.
We signed up for the self-drive 4x4 tour, which puts 11 random people in a Toyota Landcruser with all the camping equipment for 3 days. This had the potential to be a repeat of the Tallarook III. We lucked out and got a wicked group, all 11 of us got on great. There were the four the of us, Simon, Mike, Ben and I who had planned to be in the same group plus another one of our friends Jodi came down from Cairns and joined the group. The rest of our group were so sound; two french girls Morgan and Stephen, an english couple Scott and Maggie, Sally from england and Debbie the funniest scot I've ever met (Get in my belly!).
Day 1
I was loving driving the 4x4 in the sand. We drove through inland tracks which were full of obstacle. Our first stop was lake Basin... walked through the
My Ship!!
The shipwreck of the Maheno, the ship that left me stranded on the Island! rainforest for about 20 twenty... arrived at a beautiful lake, where other groups were sitting peacefully (their peace was broken). We run into the lake... a couple of us swam across the lake... a little creepy because the lake got pitch black about halfway. Next we headed for lake Wabbi. The view of the lake from the the view point was spectacular. There is a huge sandblow that dwarf the lake. The sandblow was calling me... I ran down the path to the sandblow... rolled down the sand. Simon, Scott and I climb to top of the sandblow and raced down. Next we ran down sandhill into the lake, Awesome!! I've never had so much fun playing in the sand. We camped just off the beach behind the sand dunes... setup camp and cook in the dark... broke out the vino and started getting to business. We played a seriously loud drinking game... attracted people from other group... it may have actually been Debbie laugh! The whole group was very pissed... We all just passed out and forget to put anything away. I went for a piss at 4 in the morning... almost got eaten by a Dingo... I over
Sitting around the stove
Everyone was getting cold at night so we sat around the stove for warmth. Notice how I'm wearing t-shirt and shorts... wimpee europeans! exaggerate... I saw a Dingo. Of course by leaving a big mess the night before we had attracted Dingoes. They rooted around in our food, stole some bread and ripped the garbage to pieces.
Day 2
We woke up at 6:30am. Discovered our miss... cleaned it up just before the rangers arrived... avoiding a possible fine. First stop of the morning was Eli creak... we were going to float down it but there wasn't enough water. Next we went the ship wreck of the Mahone... took some quick photos. We drove to Indian head... climb to the top to check out the views. We saw sharks and rays... got great photos of the beaches. Broke the rules and drove to the Champaign pools. The pools our filled with sea water which crashes over the rocks. Can't swim in the sea because of the sharks... rock from the pool protect you. Got my favorite photo of the trip, me splashing the girls in the pool. Again we camped just off the beach... it was cold that night so we used our stoves for heat. Played "never have I ever"... become a closer group... maybe a little too close!
Day3
No Dingo
Cheesy travel brochures
Coping the photos you see in the cheesy travel brochures attacks... Yes! Up at 6:00am... group looking a little tried. We headed to lake mackenzie... stop along the way at a pie shop( there is a pie shop everywhere in Australia)... group looking much better. Lake mackenzie is beautiful, crystal clear water and very fine sand (makes a sweaking noise when you walk on it). Spent couple hours sleeping on the beach and swimming in the lake. Left a little late from the lake... had to employ my skillfully 4x4 driving to get us there on time.
Conclusion
Fraser is wicked! I loved driving on the sand... I loved the group. I'ld love to do it again, but I don' think it would be as good without the people.
Trying to get my blog up to date... listen to the Oilers game on the computer... shit lose... sounded like a good game.
