Checked out by 10am. The girls were really hungover so slept on the sofa’s in the Arts Factory common room while I pottered around reading and on the internet. It was a miserable day in Byron Bay - absolutely hammering it down with rain so I didn’t fancy walking in to town. A girl came round to clean the common room. She had a Hoover strapped to her back like a rucksack - what a great idea! I need one of these.
I was just getting in to Chapter Two of a new book when Steph sat up and said “Oh My God. There’s our Camera Man”. I looked over just in time to see the back of Abnormal Norman disappear behind the Café counter. He was wearing the same bright blue t-shirt as the other day on the beach, so he was easy to follow through the glass windows of the common room. He spotted us and loitered around the pool area for a minute or two before striding over and plonking himself on the bench right next to us.
As he walked over, I looked at him wondering if he’d make eye contact but he chose to keep his
eyes down. It was laughable when, sitting comfortably, he looked over and pretended to do a double-take as if he’d only just noticed the two of us sitting there. I had a peculiar and rapid conversation with him, then looked away. He got the hint: we would not be doing another one of his creepy photo shoots today. Or ever again for that matter.
One of Graeme’s friends Squires picked us up from Arts Factory at 4pm and took us to his flat in Coolangatta. We’ll be staying there for a few nights before moving up the East Coast to either Surfers Paradise or Brisbane. Squires lives with another guy called Shorty (a self-explanatory nickname) and they’re both from Huddersfield in England so they call their abode “Pommie Palace”.
That night Squires took us to Salt Bar where he’s spotted Ant and Dec a few times during the seasons of “I’m a celebrity, get me out of here”. Ellie and I shared a Thai Beef salad and a Chicken Caesar salad and we drank plenty of wine. Shorty, who had finished work, was delayed but met us there at 8ish. It was a great night, they’re both really nice lads
and made us laugh with their hideous examples of chat up lines. These should never, ever be repeated and I’m shocked Squires thought he could get away with them. It’s a bit different for Shorty, because he’s small and cheeky.
Collected beers on the way home then sat at the kitchen table for an hour or so before bedtime. Looks like it’s going to be a fun few days!
