I am unsure if you received an email (or received multiple emails) regarding my last update—“Penguin Parade”; TravelBlog was experiencing difficulties sending the update to subscribers—sorry. This past weekend I traveled to Cairns, Queensland (Northeast Australia). The trip was unbelievable—arguably the best weekend of my life. The trip wa... Read Full Entry

Moorish Idol aka Tigerfish

This was by far my most favorite fish! The colors were unbelievably striking. I dubbed it Tigerfish until I found out its proper name. Truthfully, I was disappointed to find out it was named something other than Tigerfish.

This guy is thinner and shorter than the one that caused the soilment of my shorts.

This is Wally the Giant Wrasse. Wally is a fixture at the Hastings Reef and is shown all over the Reef Cruiser brochures. He is very friendly and not shy. Unfortunately, I did not see him while I was diving....other scuba divers were able to grab hold of him for picture posing. However, I did see him while I was snorkeling....I took a deep breath and swam to Wally (about 15 feet below the surface)...where I grabbed him and smiled gleefully. I am a dork.

This picture is really nice, the water looks great, but I promise, it does not do the color of the water justice. Amazing colors.

Directly above the word "GREAT" are the reefs in which I snorkeled and dove.

Robert is a fellow study abroad student. Really good guy and great sober driver (Latter Day Saints church member).

Cane Toad Racing

Cane Toad's are an absolute nuisance to Australia. Decades ago, two Cane Toad's were brought into Australia to help eliminate a specific insect from destroying crops......they are poisonous to other animals (not to humans; they supposedly give humans a little buzz after licking them.....I can report that this is not true) and repopulate more often than rabbits. Cane Toads have effectively overrun the country. In fact, in Darwin, Western Australia, there are Cane Toad brigades which collect and burn Cane Toads by the thousands. Robert bought this Cane Toad at an "auction" before the Cane Toad race. His name was Steve Irwin--unfortunately he was not as lively as the man. He took last place.
