Well Sydney ended up being a fantastic time! I the hostel I had booked turned out to be the #6 hostel in all of Australia, and it really was that good! The hostel had arranged for anyone who wanted to go out to group together and we all walked to a local bar called The World Bar. It really was a world bar because there were about 12 of us from the hostel that ended up going out and we were from all over the place! I caught up with some of my dorm mates who were German and we had a blast. With going with the hostel you got in for free, got 2 free drinks, and a free BBQ, what more could you ask for! We all hung out and listened to the karaoke being sung from people who pretty much all had English as a second language (but could speak it better than me) and it actually was really good! Some backpackers can really sing! The funniest part of the night was that if guys dressed up as girls they got 4 free drinks! Some of the guys from the hostel really went all out with mini skirts,
fishnets, bras, dresses, and lots of makeup! I sadly didn't have my camera but just let your imagination run wild and you will have the picture spot on. We left the bar as everything was winding down and went back to the hostel common room. There I stayed up until 4 a.m with my German friends and they were teaching me more German. At one point two of the German girls were trying to say something to each other and trying to find a language that noone else spoke (everyone but us dumb Americans speak 2 languages MINIMUM) and after going through 4 languages they gave up! It was such a great experience and I made so many friends!
I collapsed into bed sometime after 4 a.m and had to be up and ready by 9:45 to catch the shuttle back to the airport to fly back to Brisbane, it was rough but I managed.
During the flight back to Brisbane a man started having heart trouble so there was a lot of commotion and the whole "is there a doctor on the plane" commenced (which there was) and we got special permission to have a fast decent so we
made great time to Brisbane! I overheard the doctor say that the man would be fine, but he needs a pacemaker.
After disembarking the plane I caught the train back to the city and met Rick at his office, in turn he gave me directions on how to catch the CityCat back to the house where I would meet Robin.
Rick has been wonderful with planning my adventures and he prints out the best Google maps of the area, complete with hi-lighting and notes, I have yet to get lost under his guidance (which is great for me since I have the worst sense of direction!)
The CityCat is a boat that runs along the river ferrying people to different points, and it truly is beautiful!
I walked through the University of Queensland on the main lawn, and it is stunning, what is even better is that The Olivers live so close to UQ!
I got back, had a nice chat with the lovely Robin, then it was off to meet Greer in the City. Greer had graciously invited me out to watch the State of Origin Game at a friends house. The State of Origin is Rugby Leauge football
where the best players from Queensland play the best players from New South Wales and its a big deal. So we went over and I had a great time watching the game with a few of Greer's friends and talking about the differences between the two countries and their sports (it was quite different watching a football game where when the person gets tackled and then just gets back up again and the game keeps going!) We left a little early as to beat the traffic back to the house in St Lucia and we found out that QLD Maroons had one! Yay! Then it was off to bed for another early start the next morning to Rhett (Ricks son) and his lovely wife Deb's farm!
