Day 6

We reluctantly have to check out of our hostel today and make our way over to Tamborine Mountain- about 25km (15 miles) west of Surfers Paradise. The plan is to do a ropes course at the Thunderbird Adventure Parc, as we never got a chance to do one at Tasmania. The roads are all uphill (not surprising when going up a mountain) and poor Trixie bell doesn’t like it much, especially as she is carrying a little bit of extra weight on her (including 2 large suitcase, 2 small suitcases, 2 crates of beer, a cool box, a bag of trainers and 2 adults). Needless to say we don’t manage to make it above 2nd gear or 20 mph, taking us longer to get there than anticipated. Many twists and turns later, we finally make it to the Adventure Parc. It is great value, costing us half the price that it would have in Tasmania and we get to do three ropes courses and about 3 flying fox cable runs. The 3rd ropes course is near impossible with monkey bars, cable pulleys, leg stirrups and more to contend with. Feel like I’m on Gladiators- just call me Jet,

Not as easy as it looks!
an uncanny resemblance I’m sure you’ll agree. The finale is a 150m long flying fox.
After some sandwiches in the car, we make our way to Brisbane and the sky starts to turn grey and then rain. All I can say is that pretty much sums up Brisbane in our opinion. Ok, so we were only there for one night, but it didn’t seem any different or prettier than any other city we’ve been to. After checking the lonely planet again, we decide upon a hostel called ‘Somewhere to Stay’- an old Queenslander building. It does exactly what it says on the tin, and it is pretty much just somewhere to stay. The review in lonely planet said it was a charming and characteristic place, but that only applies if by characteristic they mean ‘falling to pieces’ and ‘not been upgraded since the 19th century’. However, we do manage to get another cheap double room, which is clean enough. We are quite a distance from the city centre and there isn’t really much else to do, so we watch a bit of masterchef and then play some Uno with the remains of our Mishka vodka.
