jess outback
drive through Left Brisbane by 4by4 and headed into desert with five other people, Jess, Ian, Anthony, Anika, Caroline. Quite a few Kilometres to travel to Birdsville to watch the races. 1602km to be exact. Took us three days of driving but stopped to stock up on alcohol and buy a sleeping bag cause obviously would be needing one it dropped in temp in the desert quite rapidly. Stayed first night in camp site and second night in the middle of the outback near place called charleville. Just pulled up in dark into the terain and drove into desert for a km and pitched tent. We had the most amazing stars and a great fire. The number of bugs commiting suicide was a little perturbing and you all know me,... there were some wierd and wonderful bugs but after an hour of being squeemish I had to chill out as there was no escape... am actually so much better right now with insects hard to believe I know but in this place there are too many! So having had a bit of a drive in car on dirt track we eventually made it to a place called windorah car smoking and smelling of
car
first camp site stacked up as can see. Ant was on roof so was rocking sulphur! We had killed the seal for the gear box which mean't taking the whole engine apart and getting the part sent here (there were apparently only two for this particular car). So much for Birdville races then we thought. Group meeting was needed.... part wasn't going to arrive till week after and we'd driven all way to see races so we thought we'd hitch lifts two by two and get there at least.
That night in Windorah in the only place in town for entertainment (there are only sixty residents) they held Yabbi races. Lobsters running on concrete.... majority of people there had overtaking us on way to windorah so for the night we were the notorious smokey car people (we hadn't noticed for an hour!) Well I had noticed smell and was told was being silly was just the smell of the land (yeah right!!!). We were also four females in a 80% male situation all fun and games.
So hitched lift with two Irish guys the next morning anf me and Jess jumped in and said meet guys in Birdsville! But to my shock the boys were very hungover so I was told to drive
bush
heres the outback starting their camper van whilst they all got drunk in back.... nice one. And the roads were dirt dirt track with small tyres you had no control at all in the ruts in the road dug out by 4x4s and such like! Had it not been for my awesome driving skills we wouldn't have gone anywhere casue was very hard.... at least I can be confident driving back home now. Anyway 50kms out of town someone overtook us and a rock the size of two palms put together came at window screen. smashed it all obviously but it was alright still hanging on! So had to drive rest 200kms with limited vision and glass flying out. I only had two small scratches no worries, was an experience! Imagine if that had happened back home, all hell would break loosa and people would stop and ask if you're alright etc perhaps give you a lift.... not here everyone just stuck thumbs up and shouted 'she'll be alright' and I was. Beer in hand as soon as got to Birdsville.

Birdsville itself has nothing except for this one weekend a year. Pub, race track, camp site, servo (petrol station). Cowboys and
camp
red soil like the pics horses what more could a girl want especially when yet again female to male was 15% to 85%, you couldn't look up to check where mate was without catching eye contact with twenty men and you knew that was dangerous as then if walked near them they would start yabbing (chatting) definately picking up the slang words.
Backed the winner twice but only put limited money on. Besides that drinking started at 10am and went all through night. Was all good fun from what can remember.... all I know is all hot men married, the women snatch them up early here!
So got back to Windorah and will tell you all about that next time!!! Still there put it that way!!!
