Holiday in Australia - Day 54

Day 2 of the safari was a bit of a rude awakening, as it started to rain!! The rain wasn’t heavy, but it wasn’t comfortable when you’re sleeping outside in a swag. Nevertheless, it was the best alarm clock considering we needed to be up by 07:40!! After a quick breakfast and a clean up around the camp we headed for ”The Rock”. The morning started with a leisurely 9 Km walk around the base. This allowed us to take photos, where permitted. Unfortunately, no beautiful pictures of sunrise were possible due to heavy cloud cover. Once again the flies were out in force, this made for some uncomfortable moments as I had left my fly net in the bus!!!! The option of climbing the rock was not available, as it had rained. This will have pleased the Aborigine elders, as they do not like people climbing the Uluru. After the rock we visited the Aboriginal cultural centre. This contained some interesting information, but was mainly a chance for people to purchase over priced merchandise. In the afternoon we headed to Kings Creek Station where I had a swim in the pool and soaked up some rays! Once we had all recharged our batteries, we headed into the bush for a nights camping under the stars! Thankfully the sky was clear, so we enjoyed food and drink under an amazing sky. The camp also had a bush toilet and shower, which was great as you could appreciate the stars whilst using the facilities. It was another early night, most people asleep in swags by 23:00. Again this was in preparation for another early start in the morning.
