We arrived in Alice springs in the afternoon and chilled by the pool at the hostel for a while showered and went to bed so we could wake up early before the sun the next morning when we would meet our group.
Sunday morning we spent driving to our campsite near Uluru stopping of at a few cattle stations along the way. After we set up camp we drove to the olgas and did a hike there, on the way back unfortunatly it began to rain. After the hike we were meant to go watch sunset on uluru, but with the uncoropitave weather we ended up watching some waterfalls on uluru instead. Aparently it only rains on average 3 days a year at Uluru, and we just happened to be there on one of those days, so it was rare that we got to see the waterfalls but missed out on the sunset :-( The next morning we woke up before the sun again to watch sunrise at uluru, unfortunatly it was still coudy but I did manage to get a few pics at the end with the sun out a bit. The climb up to the top of Uluru
was closed that day due to high winds, so instead we walked around the whole thing, it was pretty cool getting up close to the rock. After that we went on another long drive to kings canyon, stoping off for a swim at a dam along the way. By this time the weather had finally turned around so it was sunny and hot for our swim. We arrived just before sunset at our next camp site near kings canyon. The camp site was up on a hill and had an amazing view, we climbed up on a cliff and watched the sun set. We woke up early again the next morning to go hike in Kings Canyon. The first bit of the hike is straight up for about 30 min, called heart break hill. I seriously had my doubts on whether I was going to make it about half way up but I finally did, and it was well worth it once I was at the top. The Canyon was gorgeouse and in a horse shoe shape, we hiked around the rim and ended but up on the other side of the parking lot about 5 hours later. Pretty amazing.
After the hike we made the long journey back to Alice springs.
We set off on the 2nd part or the trip heading north from Alice springs towards Darwin. We would stop every hour or two along the way, one place we stopped was just wired, it was supposedly the alien capital of Australia, and they had a bunch of statues we had fun taking pictures with. Later that day we stopped at Devils Marbles, which is a bunch of giant boulders in the middle of the desert. Tons of photo ops here as you can see, and it was so much fun climbing around on the rocks. That night we stayed at a really nice camp spot that was sort of on a plane, with wallabies jumping around. Really good sunrise the next morning while we were getting ready to leave. Later that day we stopped off at a thermal springs, the water was like bath water, very nice! Then in the evening we stopped at a cultural center and got to throw some bomerangs and attempt to make some aboriginal art. After that we headed to our last campsite at Katherine Gorge. The next morning we got
up and drove down to the gorge and rented kayaks, it was to pretty in the gorge and we got out at the end of the first gorge hiked to the 2nd and went for a swim. We then drove to one last waterfall a little farther down the road to eat lunch and go for a final swim, afterward we did the last few hours of driving and finally arrived in darwin that evening.
We only had the next day to spend in Darwin, jess and I went down for a swim in the lagoon, during the day. And in the evening we walked to the beach to with some of the people that were in our group. Because Darwin is so far north you can actually watch the sunset over the ocean there. After the sunset there are some markets along the waterfront that we walked around and got some dinner. There was a band playing some awesome music with drums and a digerydoist. Pretty sweet, then our flight left later that night.
