Brian took thid photo like this as it was the only way he could them all in. Day 10 8/8/2009 Ayres Rock & the Ulga
What a top day. We returned to the National Park intending to go directly back to Ayres Rock but we found that the climb was closed due to winds at the summit. Brian was pissed off because that was his goal for the day so as a second choice we headed for the Olgas as the walk was still open.
Amazing rock formation - the big domes were made up of what looked like rocks imbedded into rocks. We chose to complete the Walpa Gorge, 2.6km 1hr return.
Awesome mix of red rock, green bushes/shrubs a small water hole and rock path. After we completed the walk we drove around to the “Valley of the Winds” but decided to head back to Ayres Rock.
The walk was open and as soon as we arrived, Brian was out of the car and on his way up the rock - no one was going to stop him as he was going to “kick its ass!” It took him and 1 1/4hrs up and only 3/4 hr return. While he was gone I walked the base as I knew the climb was not for me. Brian

Walking track found that on the way down the rock if he walked with a little shuffle it was a lot easier - all you needed was rhythm. Some folk shuffled down on their bums and others walked down backwards holding onto the chain for dear life. Others showed their stupidity by going up bare foot and with no water and no hat.
The rock has an interesting texture - it looks scaly or camouflaged.
We decided to motel it for another night - what the hell we went out for tea, had a few drinks and crashed early.
Heading for Kings Canyon tomorrow
