sunrise at Uluru
not quite what I imagined, but...
Well, it rained pretty much all night, which on the one hand was really cool, so listen to the rain hit the tarp of a tent is one of my favorite outdoor sounds, but... when you came to see the magic of the sun on the Rock... it's not quite as exciting, but... oh well, we take things as they come, and so our small group set out to go to the sunrise spot with the hope to catch a little break in the weather and maybe have the rock light up with some rays.
Once again, 100's of people joined us along the street to watch the magic, that never really quite unfolded, but it was nevertheless a great experience, and since i am staying one more night, i might have another crack at it tomorrow... who knows.
Once daylight hit around 7 am, we set out to walk around Uluru on the 9 km base walk that circles around the rock, and take us past a really neat waterhole, lot's of amazing formations and sacred sights and some aboriginal rock drawings that have been very well preserved. All in

all quite an educational experience. After our hike,

we drove to the Cultural Center in the National Park and learned even more about the history of the aboriginals, the stories surrounding the Uluru and Kata Tjuta, and the meaning of the different rock formations and lines on Uluru to the Aboriginal people. I just wish i could remember all the amazing stories and history... so much information.

Our tour concluded around lunch time, and after checking into the backpackers Pioneer Lodge, i spent the rest of the day reading, listening to the rain, relaxing and in the evening, bbq my very own crocodile and kangaroo skewers at the outdoor grill. Quite tasty, i might add! After a few beers with Mario from Lichtenstein, it was time to settle in for the night, since i wanted to get up early again to have another crack at a sunrise!
