Kakadu

May 28, Thursday.
Picked up Linda from the YWCA and then headed out to Kakadu. We found aboriginal art painted on rocks, this area has some fascinating scenery. There is a lot to see but won’t be able to see the two large waterfalls (4-wheel drive only). So at this point it looks like we will only be doing walks. Saw a crocodile for the first time in the wild and spent time in the main town of Jabiru, which is much like most of the towns in the north. Staying in a free campsite.

May 29, Friday.
Linda and I decided to go on another walk this morning; we followed a trail that wound through different landscapes, ranging from rocky outcrops to wetlands, all very impressive. Later we took a rough plane flight, which took a course up the length of the East Alligator River. Both of us were airsick. Spent the afternoon at the swimming pool and the evening talking about life in general. Would you believed it; my still camera has just started working again. Weather is great.

May 30, Saturday.
Another day spent in Kakadu, walking on tracks that lead through wetlands, grasslands and escarpments to more aboriginal paintings on rock walls. Nothing compared to Oberon Lookout with its views of distant escarpments and wetlands below. The weather has been hot, so another trip to the town’s swimming pool cooled us off. The accommodation is still free, so I’m in no hurry to leave this area, although I’m running out of clean gear to wear. Things are looking good right now. I'm relaxed.

June 31, Sunday.
Left the campsite about 8:30 in the morning. Linda is trying to get a job at the local tourist resort. She was asked to come back at 2:30 (she got the job and spent 6-months at Cooinda). In the meantime we went on another walk. At dusk we boarded a boat and joined the Yellow Waters Tourist Cruise, which turned out to be fantastic. Saw a lot of bird life and saltwater crocodiles. It took about an hour and was lucky to witness a fantastic sunset. Back to the campsite we pack up Linda’s tent and dropped her off at the resort. The drive back to my campsite was made on my own. I miss her company already.
