So after Bondi beach we headed off to Byron Bay for a stopover before carrying on up the coast.
The beach was lovely, not too busy so we spent a few hours just chilling before heading out for a few drinkypoos.
Next on the list was surfers paradise (yes thats actually the name of the place!) for a little more beach bum action.
We had read that Surfers is a bit commercialised but didn't realise how much until we turned up and were met by a mini miami. Again the beach was great although our lazy bums generally didn't make it down there until about 1pm each day, ooops!
Our first night there was a club hoppin' night from our hostel which we got talked into going on. We got on a bus to the first club and felt liked we'd stepped on an 18-30's holiday bus for a night out in Magaluf!!! Luckily there were a couple of other people looking equally unimpressed so we made friends instantly and ended up spending the next few days with the same group of people. Despite the tacky bus ride it turned out to be a pretty good night and we
ended up on another hostel night out the following night to a beach party which wasn't on the beach just had lots of men in bikinis!!
So Surfers was pretty much just beach during the day and bevvies of a night, oh and Jemma's quick trip to the tattoo parlour, Gina was almost in tears just watching Jem's face!!
So we moved on from the beach and headed up to Brisbane where to end my whinging the girls took me to a Koala sanctuary. For the rest of the day all that could be heard was oooh and ahhh as we coooed over the cute and furries. As well as actually getting to cuddle koalas and seeing cute koala babies we fed kangaroos and scared Gina with all the parrots!!
We met up again with our mates from Surfers in their hostel for the next couple of nights, unfortunately the first night was Karaoke where we murdered an Alanis Morrissette song and the second a pool competition where Gina and I sulked because 2 girls beat us!!
After two nights out Gina was feeling her age and needed to rest the next day so Jem and
I went to the man-made beach in Brisbane, quite strange having a beach in the middle of the city but really nice, other than the couple of dogs chasing each other round and covering us in sand!!
Being in Brisbane we thought it would be rude not to go and visit Steve "the crocodile Hunter" Irwin's zoo. We got to see yet more koalas and kangaroos as well as shows with otters, elephants, cheetahs and of course CROCs - what a ripper!!!! Being what our 5th zoo of the trip you'd think we'd be getting bored but we love it!!!
On the way from the zoo we drove the scenic route through the Glass House Mountains where we stopped at a scenic lookout and started the 700 metre "steep" walk to the lookout point. Steep my arse, this was inca trail part deux, which quickly turned into a relay race where Gina gave up and passed on her camera then 3/4 of the way up Jem decided it was scenic enough and i had to carry the batton so to speak to the top! Pretty cool view although it caned walking back down!!

Forget chewing on eucalyptus!
Whilst the koala pics are sooo cute, looks like Fi and Jem are almost breastfeeding them!!! As if I didn't want to go to Oz before, I definitely want to now. Miss you Jem but I'm sure you're not missing boring Blighty. Keeping having a ball. Love, Jo xx
