After leaving my gorgeous friend Marion in Sydney, it was time to head up the East Coast to Clarence Town part of the beautiful Hunter Valley region. Here we spent three weeks with family, cooking, sightseeing, hanging out and generally having fun. The Awabakal people lived in the Newcastle area for countless generations. To the Awabakal,Newcastle was known as Muloobinba, translated as Mu-lu-bin (edible sea fern).Lieutenant Shortland was the first white man to explore and name the place Newcastle in 1797 and is the site of the second European Settlement in Australia.
