We are back at Woolgoolga at our favourite beachside site .. unfortunately, though, for just one night, tomorrow we must move to a site further back. It is very nice sitting watching the waves and walking the beach.
We spent our first night at Tuncurry, at a caravan park we haven't stayed at before but one we will stay at again. It was right on the water, where the river runs to the ocean, which meant a nice walk along the riverfront to start the day.
Around Taree and Kempsey there is evidence of the heavy rain and local flooding they've had recently - quite boggy paddocks and full brown creeks. Once we reached Kempsey, we took the back road .. now quite bumpy due to the trucks from the roadworks for the new highway and the rain. The new road is coming on but still a way to go.
Rather than turn off and head back to the highway, we decided to have a look at Hat Head - it's been awhile. It was quiet for a Sunday - though there were a few campers in the caravan park and several fisherman trying their luck in the

sparkling in the sunshine tannin coloured creek that runs to the ocean. It was nice to wander on the beach and join the pelicans waiting for someone to catch a fish .. no one did while we were there!
Our next stop was at South West Rocks. It's always so pretty there. We parked on the headland overlooking Horseshoe Bay to the north, Trial Bay to the south and had our cuppa in the sun.
We missed seeing Barbara waiting for us when we got to their home. Jim joined us for dinner in the motor home at night and this morning he drove us to visit cousin Rodd and Heather for morning tea at the home they've recently bought in town. They're off overseas on Saturday so we were glad we saw them before they left. We had a quick lunch back with Jim and then drove on here.
Great excitement. We have been at Byron Bay before when the Writers' Festival was on and wished we'd done something about booking to see something there. This time I went online and bought a ticket for Friday's festivities. It isn't cheap but the day pass enables us to hear any writer

Pelicans waiting for a feed talking on that day. I'm hoping to hear Paul Kelly (yes Jason!!), Charles Pickering and maybe catch a glimpse of Wendy Harmer and Richard Glover. I would have loved to have bought a three-day pass .. maybe next year.
Lately, we have been watching the DVD set of East of Everything - the series set in Byron Bay which we liked so much when it was on TV. Last night we watched them at the Writers' Festival so it will be deja vu all over again when we're there. We've booked in at the caravan park in town for three nights.
We'll be here for a couple of nights, then at Lennox Head a night. The weather is glorious but I know Sydney's having the same. There is wattle out everywhere along the highway .. spring can't be far away, she says hopefully!
