This is the first entry in my journal. Now you lot back in the rainy UK can log on and find out exactly what I've been up to complete with photos....
So here I am in Sydney! First impressions - hot!! More spacious, spread out and green than London (but has less character). Haven't been into central Sydney yet - Millsy lives in a nice southern suburb called Engadine which is surrounded by National Park - really green hilly bush and great beaches about 10 mins away. Reminds me a bit of America but without Americans 😊
Jetlag wasn't too bad - haven't had trouble adjusting to new time but not eating much as stomach seems to have shut down! (A big surprise for someone who eats as much as me!) The heat is almost too hot - I'm surprised as I'm definitely a sun person but when it's 36 degrees and humid, it can get a bit much. Still, we've also had a couple of grey drizzly days so I feel right at home! We've been to a couple of beaches including Cronulla (where the riots were, very peaceful now you'll be glad to know Han!).
Onto
Big Day Out
Mike and Monique Australians in general - I thought Millsy was fairly typical but believe me the stereotypes were out in force on Australia Day! (yesterday). Everyone is more in shape than UK (I guess because they can't grow quietly fatter under their jumpers like we do in winter) but..... bad skin! Talk about sun damage, most people are very freckly already - there are going to be a lot of wrinkly old grannies. Also, lots of spots! I guess it comes from being so hot and humid. Anyway I am religiously trying to wear suncream to preserve my pommie skin!
Anyway, more about yesterday, we went to the Big Day Out which is Australia's biggest music festival. One day only but they pack a lot in! It was at the Olympic stadium which was pretty spectacular. A lot cleaner, better organised and less muddy than English festivals. And enough toilets!! Happy days..... Anyway the high point was being 3 rows back from the Magic Numbers! They are not too big over here so it was a great opportunity and they rocked!! Also saw Kings of Leon (your hairy dirty men Rach!), Franz Ferdinand and the White Stripes. Great atmosphere, very chilled
Big Day Out
Me, Mike, Monique out. There was the usual carnage that follows a long day drinking in the sun but all very peaceful.
Right, more to follow as we are off on a hike this weekend, camping on the beach, and then off up the coast next week.
Random facts:-
Shark attack survival rate - 100% (you can relax mum!)
Crocodile sightings - 0
Snake sighting - 1
Spider sighting - 1 (giant brown and yellow in the bush)
Other - cockatoos, lorakeets, a possum and a giant cockroach
