Sydney Opera House Our flight from Jhb to Sydney was ok, we were given the 2 seats in the middle of the 4 which I personally think are the worst possible seats but in the end it wasn’t too bad. I slept on and off for about 4 hrs but Sandra slept the whole way; just kidding she dozed less than I did. Food was ok although Sandra was mortified when there was no pudding with the dinner service. Fortunately, just before she was about to go up to the Captain and complain, they came around with ice lollies and all peace and harmony in the universe was restored.
We arrived in Sydney at 14:30 after about a 12hr flight and knew that we still had passport control and customs/quarantine to get through. We were in the hotel about 30 minutes after we landed. Everything was very organised and we breezed through. Our bags were just about 1st off the plane, we told the quarantine officials what we were carrying and they let us through without asking to look in them or anything, we were very impressed.
From the hotel we headed into the city centre by train and get off by
Sydney Harbour Bridge
View of the Sydney Harbour Beach Circular Quay and walked around the Sydney Opera house and harbour bridge. Sydney is a very beautiful city, spread around the harbour, it is very picturesque. We were blessed with perfect weather this evening and just walked around the various parks and gardens dotted around this section of the harbour.
The next day we had decided to do the Sydney and Bondi Explorer. These are a hop-on, hop-off buses that go around central Sydney and greater Sydney out to Bondi beach. We were again greeted with fantastic weather and really had a good day. We jumped off the bus at certain points and did the scenic walks to the next pick up point. We also jumped off at Bondi Beach to have a walk about, sit on the sand and dip our feet in the water (without a stinger suit - I know, I am so brave). The beach is great and looked perfect for swimming in or learning to surf, unfortunately we didn’t have our swimming gear with us. We then walked along the coast to Bronte beach for about an hour. The scenery was lovely and it was nice to see everyone out and about enjoying themselves.

View of both the famous Sydney landmarks There is a great atmosphere in and around Sydney. It is a very multicultural city and you hear lots of different accents whilst you are walking around.
After the Bondi bus we joined the one that goes around Sydney city centre. If you don’t get off the bus at all it takes about 2hrs in all to complete. This took it’s toll on Sandra and she was soon dozing off on the bus but I thought it was thoroughly enjoyable and highly informative. After the tour we had a nice supper down near the harbour before heading back to the hotel. We have an early start tomorrow as we have a 06:20 flight up to Cairns.
