Declan Prendiville Reporting for RTE at Sydney Harbour Bridge & Opera House Sydney - Ive Come to the Land Down Under - G'Day
After 6 Months and 3 Weeks, 11 Countries, 10 Flights, 33 Bus Journeys, 11 Boat Journeys and 1 Elephant Ive finally made it to Sydney and the Land Down Under...What a Journey.!!
We left for Narita Airport, Tokyo on Wednesday evening for a 10hour flight to Sydney - I really didnt wanna leave Japan and all the friends I had made over the last 2.5months...but we all made a promise we would all return in the next couple years an teach english in the same school..ive already researched Japanese classes in Sydney thats how much I loved the country...but alas it was time for a new adventure.
We arrived at Sydney Airport around 8am Thursday morning - what a shock we got - after 27 weeks travelling through South East Asia & Japan we arrived in the western world where everyone spoke english...well ok Australian is kinda english..actually ive yet to confirm that.
We booked into the Hostel straight away - now Hostel is kinda stretching the word cause it has over 500 guests every night an its bloody HUGE...even has a bar / nightclub in
Sydney
Harbour Bridge & Opera House the basement..so ive been told anyways cough cough
When you hear the word Sydney & Australia you think (i hope) of sunshine an warm weather - well its been like a moonson since we arrived - it finally stopped raining today Tuesday for the first day since I got here...all of Australia is suffering from flash floods an strong winds..wasnt expecting that one...but after been in the Japanese Alps only a few weeks ago im glad its not too warm..but some more sunshine would be more than welcome
We metup with Paul (Dublin guy i travelled with)on Friday night, hadnt seen him since he left for Australia about 3 months...so was good to catchup an get his thoughts on Sydney...always good to have a mate in a far away land.
Aaron flew off today for Melbourne this afternoon - so the 26 weeks double act finally went there seperate ways - he is heading home in 4weeks so is doing the East Coast an New Zealand - gonna be strange not having him around cause we spent soo much time travelling together but ill see him in Japan as promised..!!
Ill be basing myself in this

As you can see from the pictures Sydney is a beautiful city, very vibrant an lively, big mix of cultures and nice an compact so you can quite easily get your way around without much hassle. Im looking forward to making it my possibly new home for the next 6months.

Super Photos
Hi Declan, really impressive photos, yet again. Maybe you should send your cv to National Geographic. Imagine getting paid to do what you are doing anyhow!
