Well, we have been living in Coogee now for nearly five weeks. Time is flying by so fast. We are very settled and have got into a routine. I am loving my job at the nursery, i am getting on very well with the staff and the children are adorable. Dave is enjoying his job too, he gets on well with everyone, but he will be pleased when we are back on the road again. I am happy to be settled for a while. The house has worked out perfectly, we get on well with the people we live with and havent had any problems.
So the weekdays are basically full-time work and in the evenings we have been watching the Australian Big Brother, we are addicted! I also watch Neighbours every night, it is ahead of England which is exciting! On a tuesday night we go to our local cinema every week in Randwick, it is only $5 a ticket (about 2 pounds), bargain! Friday night is our takeaway and beer night whilst watching Big Brother friday night live.
The weekends have been so much fun. In the week we plan what we are
going to do at the weekend. We have a big list of all the things we want to do and see, in and around Sydney and are working our way through them.
Our last Blog was written on the Saturday 11th June when we went to the Jazz festival, which was a bank holiday weekend. On the sunday we had a lovely day, we did a coastal walk from Manly to Spit Bridge. Manly is in North Sydney, you get there by ferry from the harbour, and you can actually see the harbour from Manly, so the walk was great as all along the way we had great views of Sydney Harbour in the distance. It wasnt a hard walk, about 12km, we had a picnic lunch on the rocks next to the ocean. It was a beautiful walk. We saw a couple of kookaburras along the way. They make such a funny sound, it is like a really loud laughing sound. After the walk, we got the ferry back across to Sydney Harbour and went back to Darling Harbour to listen to more music at the Jazz festival as it was on all weekend. It was even better
on the sunday night, we got a bottle of wine and listened to the Jazz and it ended with a fireworks display over the harbour, spectacular! On the bank holiday monday we went to see a film called 3-iron at the State Theatre, it was part of the Sydney Film Festival, which is a really big event over here, so we were lucky to be here when it was on. The film was great, very arty! so we had a very enjoyable bank holiday weekend.
The following weekend (Sat 18th June) we spent the day shopping at Fox Studios which is near where i work. It is a big tv studio, but also has a shopping, cinema and restaurant complex. On the way home we stopped off at a coffee shop and spent the afternoon chilling out, reading the papers. We have become quite a fan of this coffee shop and go there regularly. (We have lots of buy 1 get 1 free drink vouchers for it! I am my fathers daughter! Love a voucher!) On the sunday we did another great coastal walk from Coogee beach along the cliff tops to Bondi beach. It only took an hour
and then we spent the day in Bondi, walking around the market and along the beach and had lunch and a beer overlooking Bondi beach in a lovely Malaysian restaurant. The weather was great and it was a lovely day.
The next weekend (Sat 25th June) we went to Taronga Zoo. I think it was our best day yet in Sydney, we loved it! The Zoo is amazing, you get a ferry across to it from Sydney Harbour and you get the best views of the harbour and the opera house from the Zoo. It is cool because you are looking at the animals with the Opera House in the background. The highlights were, a bird show with the great views in the background, the koalas, chimps and giraffes. It was such a great Zoo because you could get so close to the animals. It really was amazing. We were like little kids getting excited! In the evening we got the ferry back to Sydney Harbour and went out in The Rocks, which is the area right next to the harbour and Opera House. We had an Italian meal and then did a bar crawl. We finished up in
a trendy bar called Cruise, sitting outside with a brilliant view of the Opera House. It was a perfect day. On the sunday i was feeling a little delicate from the night on The Rocks! So we had a lazy day, went back to the Coffee shop and chilled out.
The weekend just gone (Sat 2nd July) was another exciting weekend. We went to the Powerhouse museum on sauturday day time. It is like a science museum and it had a really cool interactive section geared for children. Well we were like big kids! We were queing up with the children to do things, i even got Dave to do the hula hoop, it was hilarious! I took a film on the digital camera. We really were like big kids! In the evening we watched another concert in Darling Harbour. It was the same set up as the Jazz festival, but this was the first of three in the Winter concert series. It was Sydney Concert Orchestra playing Bernstein and Gershwin music. So they played some songs from Westside Story and ended with Blue Rapsody whilst fireworks went off over the harbour. It was brilliant. We really are big
fans of Darling Harbour and seem to be going there lots! On the way home we went to the cinema at our local in Randwick. On sunday we met up with Sharon and Den who we stayed with when we first arrived in Sydney. We met on the steps of the Opera House and went for a walk around the harbour and had a lovely pub lunch and a couple of drinks. It was great to see them again and catch up.
So we have had a brilliant few weeks and are busy planning our next few weekends. Time is going so fast, we will be finishing work on August 19th. We are both happy and enjoying our living and working experience in Coogee.
