One plane away…
So 2016 ended and 2017 began. Was a strange one for me as I had to say goodbye to my Australian friends in Sydney.
Through no choice of my own, but the legalities of a visa (it was about to expire) - it was time to move on. It seems such a big deal and a big process but the reality hits pretty quickly when you board a plane and exit a plane and that is the end of one chapter and the beginning of another. In the space of eight hours I had left Australia behind and was embarking on the next step.
Travel is a wonderful thing but it also tears you away from, and pulls you into new things all the time! I was super sad to be leaving Australia and almost felt bad that I wasn’t excited enough for the adventures that awaited. This is totally normal though and, I believe it is a reflection of the friendships I made and the good times I had!
I couldn’t help it though after all the goodbyes, I was pretty sad to be on a plane
to Thailand - ridiculous I know! But....that is just the "leaving" part...then there is the "arriving" and a whole new chapter begins.
It seemed so strange that eight hours later I no longer lived in Sydney, which had come to feel so normal. Here I was in Thailand and ready for the next adventure, with cherished memories and friendships that will go beyond the borders of Australia. Travel is not just about the places we see - it is about the people we meet along the way. I am very lucky to have seen some incredible places in the world - but the best memories are the ones that I have shared with others, regardless of location!
Sydney gave me many happy memories and friendships for life - I managed to get to
Uluru, Melbourne, Nabiac, Byron Bay, Brunswick Heads for a music festival, Queenstown New Zealand for skiing, and Cairns for the Great Barrier Reef - so I think I did pretty well for a holiday working visa and intermittent work!! It's such a large country and there are numerous places I have 'saved for next time' which is also a nice thought! You could
spend a year in Australia and still not see it all. I think the trip that had the biggest impact in that respect was my Uluru trip - check out my blog on 'How the Outback Won' - There is so much space in Australia, and even the space itself is beautiful and unique! Sadly I didn't make it to the West Coast, but it is very much on my list as I have heard many wonderful things! My brief trip to New Zealand also inspired me to see more of that stunning country - I only got a glimpse of the mountains and it left me wanting to see more! Travel is quite addictive!
