Right, well we do we begin? What a busy six days it's been. Despite the weather being pretty poo we've done loads! All baring Saturday it's rained which has been pretty depressing as we've waited so long to come out and the rain really (pardon the pun) puts a dampener on things.
Thursday was just taken up with getting over the worst bit of jet lag and trying to find our barings. We found the bridge climb place and sorted out the details of our Bridge Climb for saturday, found a few top pubs, had a walk along the harbour and a look around the outside of the Opera House (of course typical me needed a wee so had to use their facilities!).
We woke up kinda refreshed on Friday to heavy non-stop rain and that's how it continued all day. We had another bit of a wander and found a Gloria Jeans (wa hey - I've now taken to being very sad and taking piccies of the various Gloria Jean's we find - Ben often disowns me) then got the bus round to Paddy's Market and revelled in all the touristy tat they sell (and yes we did buy some!).
We then walked over to Darling Harbour (found our seccond Gloria Jean's) for a moouch around. We even found a 'British Lolly shop' that sell lots of english sweets - I was in my element until I noticed the prices - $2.20 for a box of poppets! (Can I hear a thud as Emma faints to the floor?)
Thankfully saturday was a glorious day for our Bridge Climb. I was absolutely pooping myself beforehand - more about the fact there were no toilet facilities at the top of the bridge than the height of it! Our Bridge Climb guide "Pat' was very supportive to us scaredy cats and told us lots of stories about the history of the construction of the bridge that was fab as we were going up as you could understand it a lot more. We had lots of phtos taken up there but were not allowed to taken our own cameras up. Everything had to be attached to our climb suits (that looked like giant roopmer suits - NOT very attractive), even a hanky had to be attatched! We also had to wear fethching baseball caps (mmm , just our style!) and had to do some
really silly poses for our group photo (you'll have to see it!).
Sunday morning we went to Bondi Beach which was really good. The weather was still lovely (at this point!) and we even had a paddle in the sea! We saw lots of surfer dudes and had a walk around the weekly Bondi Market which was very laid back and reminded me of being a student. When we got back on the bus we had a tour around some of the other beaches which are just stunning with fantastic views - it really has to be seen to be believed. Unfortunately as we were making our way back it started to rain again really badly again so on the spur of the moment we booked a tour around the Opera House. Did you know there are over 1,000 rooms in the venue? It's thirty five years old (same as Benjamin!) and it went over building budget by $95 million!
Yesterday we had a Blue Mountains excursion which was fantastic but the rain spoilt it a little. Our tour guide 'Bob' was a mature little man who was a 'delight' (Ben's words). First of all we went to a Wild
Life park (I know - exactly my cup of tea!?!) which to my surprise I really enjoyed. We both had our piccies taken with a koola, saw kangaroos, tasmian deveils, dingos and wallabies. After this we went to a nature reserve and Bob taught us all how to throw a boomarang, something neither of us were looking forwards to but found quite a laugh in the end! Ben was a lot better at it than me - no surprise there!
After this we drove throygh the Blue Mountains which wasn't that great as it was raining so much and so foggy that we couldn't really see any mountains! After lunch we went to Scenic Park, on the Scenic cable car and then on the steepest train ride in the world (VERY scary!). Following this we visited a Candy Shop (once again in my element but very expensive).
Today we caught the jet cat across to Manly Beach which is a very laid back seaside resort where they film Home and Away and yes they were filming today. Lot's of extras in summery clothes despite the wind and rain and I walked across in the shot by accident (honset guv it
was an accident!). Ben was NOT impressed with me! We stopped off at a chocolate bar and had the most divine toffee apple hot chocolate and bought a 'hug mug' - mmmmmm!
Tomorrow we're off to Melbourne and will be really sad to say bye bye to Sydney, 6 nights is DEFINATELY not enough time to spend here.
