So...we arrived in Kings Cross and it started to rain. The first thing that we noticed was that yet again we had ended up in the Red Light District - a comman occurance now for Han and I! We made it to our hostel, not before passing "The British Lolly Shop". After spending about half an hour just being amazed by this shop that sold all the things we had been talking about and craving in Thailand, I left with a pack of flamin' hot monster munch and some minstrels. Lovely! The hostel we were staying at, was run by two sister's who were really nice, and had just been voted the 2nd best hostel in Australia. There was nothing too fancy about it and it was fairly old but clean and friendly.
Han and I got a pizza that night. We decided that it was too late to fuss about going to the supermarket and cooking. We were sharing a dorm with 8 other girls, it had been a while since we had stayed in a hostel. The following morning we got up and walked down to Woolworths (which are supermarkets in Australia). Stocked up on some dinners and
lunch to take out with us in the day but even the basics added up to nearly fifty dollars! Money really doesn't go far over here. We had some breakfast made our lunch and then headed down the Royal Botanic gardens. It was really lovely in the gardens and it takes you down to the river where you can walk round to Maquirie Point, which is the best place to see the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge. This must have been a very popular spot for joggers as they were out in force!! We passed an outdoor cinema which was in a great spot as it you could see the harbour bridge behind it, but unfortunately it was $30 to watch a film! We walked back round to the Opera House and treated ourselves to a glass of wine at the Opera Bar. The Opera House is a really cool building and really big! It would be good to actually see something there and we were gutted because Sting had played there the night before and the ticket prices were actually quite reasonable - although I imagine they would have been all sold out! We went back to the
hostel and watched a film! It wasn't until then that we realised how burnt we had got! It had been really overcast and not sunny at all! We went out to a place called Sugarmill that night with a big group from the hostel. It wasn't that great in there and the free cocktail we were given tasted and looked very similar to water you would wash your dishes in! So we didn't have a very late one.
We arranged for Lucy to come and meet us in town on the Tuesday. She stayed in our dorm for one night and as a favour to us, the girls allowed her to only stay for one night - there is a min. three night stay there! We met Lucy around half seven and then we got talking to a girl from Saudi Arabia who had moved to Australia. We all went and got some dinner and as it was cheap Tuesdays at Domino's we figured it would have been rude not to really! We got some cheap wine from the off license and headed back with our pizzas. We went to a place called World Bar and were given four
free drinks vouchers and the drinks this time were actually decent! They had karaoke and Han and I got up and sang a little number! The night was very good and very cheap, the only alcohol we paid for was our bottle of wine which was only seven dollars! In World Bar the serve cocktails in teapots which I thought was pretty cool!
The next morning I had booked to get my hair cut as a model - free haircut, can't go wrong really... or so I thought! The girl who cut my hair was really good and so was the guy who was her mentor but he got slightly carried away and cut it really short and I hate it!!! The only saving grace is that I have two months until I get home so hopefully won't look like a little boy anymore! Anyway, its in really good condition now and it did need a really good cut! After spending practically the whole morning at the hairdressers Hannah came and met me then we headed over to Bondi Junction again where I had an appointment with a certain tattooist!
By the time we got home that night I was knackered, Han and I had some dinner then went back out to meet the guy who had cut our hair (he did Hannahs as well - for free!). We went down to Bondi Beach and by the time we got there it was about midnight. This was my first experience of Bondi Beach but I couldn't really see much as it was dark. We had a couple of drinks then got the bus back home.
Our final day in Sydney had arrived and it was raining! We weren't due to leave until the evening so we checked out and left our bags in the storage room. The hostel was really relaxed so we just hung around there for the morning. The weather finally cleared up so we decided to go to Bondi beach. It a really nice beach and I can see why it is the most popular beach to go to in Sydney. We sunbathed for an hour or so then headed back to get some dinner before getting the long overnight bus to Byron Bay!
I really loved Sydney and would definitely come back, I think I still preferred Melbourne though - its slightly more chilled out. Will update the rest of Australia soon, but now my fingers are aching and I'm hungry! Missing you all xxx
