Cheeky BBC
One day commentators will be able to say good things about the english cricket team from here............... maybe.......... Another long time with no news from us! sorry guys, would love to say we've been far too busy but that'd be a lie, would love to say there's been nowhere to access the internet, but that'd be another one(play stick cricket or write a blog??????? hard choice really!) Basically after nicky left we had a nice chilled out time up to the point of meeting Bobby (for those of you who don't know, Rob's (friend from blackpool ) sister and hubby emigrated to oz a year or so ago, he's come over for a month to see here and with circumstances working very well managed to catch us for the last week we were in Oz! Awesome! And very very heavy! So we're in singapore now, and so far have done nothing but chilled out in the hostel! decided a day of nothing was on the cards and much needed! So gonna run through Oz as quick as possible and try and get pics up!
Sooooooooooooo, after leaving a very dopey Nicky in Christchurch with 3 alarms set and a promise that she wouldn't miss another flight, me and dave were just getting over our post NZ hangovers by
Melbourne!
From the roof of the MCG! the time we landed! And of course, very true to form, we couldn't easily find our first hostel! actually couldn't figure out how to get to the tram line we needed and even the cab drivers seemed incapable of helping us!! So we spent what felt like a good hour (was probably only 15mins) walking around to a different station where we knew we could get a tram from! Only to get very hot, very very hassled by flies and in the end giving up and hopping the first empty cab we saw-which took another 20 mins to find! Arrived at the hostel and thought it best top just sleep off the remanants of the hangover (which was till next morning!)
Nicky was due in by 11 but we got a text message from her saying there'd been problems in Christchurch and she wasn't sure how long she'd be! So just about the time i was getting very hassled she turns up at reception with a big grin on her face and a little 'gotcha!' Love that girl but sometimes i could just............... You get the point. Not funny. Maybe in retrospect it was, but at the time, definately
Warm ups!
Need to train a little bit longer and harder boys........... not funny!
Had a great day exploring the botanical gardens and the glorious MCB(cricket stadium), we were even treated to the england team warming up on the pitch while we were there! Watching Monty Panesar drop 4 catches in a row wasn't convincing to be honest................ Great tour, well reccomended, huge stadium, think even nicky enjoyed it a bit! Spent the rest of th day exploring the city, shopping (which sucked, worst part of having a girl with you) and stopping at bars, (only way to put a smile back on Paul and Dave's faces!) Spent most of the night playing poker and drinking copious amounts of duty free to the point that the next day got put on hold in favour of big couches and dvds!
Arranged an early cab for the long long and early trip to sydney the next day! Which we did without a hitch! and by we i mean me and dave. not nicky. by no stretch of the imagination was it remotely close to being stress free for nicky! She lost her purse! after tearing the room apart, searching the hostel high and low, waking up the owners to find out
Sydney!
Nicky takes off! (think she misses trampolines!) if anyone had handed it in we had to leave to get the last bus, which bearing in mind this was christmas eve truly was the last bus to sydney with one very pissed off nicky in tow!!!!
First break on the Greyhound (which by the way is INFINITELY better than the american Greyhound) we called the hostel to find out if there was any news. Which there was. It had been found by the cleaners. in our room. under the pile of sheets and towels which we all seem to remember checking(obviously not well enough)!! Long story short it was the 29th by the time she got it back after much tearing out of hair!
Getting in late to sydney we faced the challenge of carrying enough beer to satisfy us through chrstmas eve and day on top oif all of our bags! That's a whole lot of beer and wine! and carting it all around!
Stayed in a hostel 40 mins ride outside of sydney (no we didn't realise it was that far away when we booked) which was the most dissorganised place ever! Our room had 6 beds but about 10 people living out
Happy New Year!
What a view eh? of it! And it stank of sweat! and i mean truly stank! couple that with a selfish Canadian who stole the room fan and positioned it 5 inches from his face every night it was the worst place sofar! and we'd booked a week there! and over-paid big time through the internet! But hey, it was christmas so we did what all wise men do and got smashed! big singsong by the pool with occasional getting wet (HINT: REMOVE ALL SHOES AND JEANS BEFORE JUMPING IN POOL OR THEY WILL NEVER DRY PROPERLY!)
Christmas day was a very weird experience, waking up in the smelly hostel, no family, the 3 of us were very thankful to be all together, and even more thankful for the full dinner put on at the hostel! 3 meats and even pigs in blankets! Didn't even matter it was cold by the tiome they got round to serving it! - Amatures! Did the usual sleeping infront of TV after dinner then moved on to the most unusual sleeping on the beach! Great day in the end!
Spent the next few days looking round sydney, proving that i'm a master surfer (got all the
way on my knees!) and the odd getting pissed, aka practising for new year!
New Year itself was awesome! or it was once me and nicky had dropped her bag at left luggage and finnished the 3km with beer and goon (wine in 4 litre bags for 4 quid! - good as it sounds - not very!) The hostel had reserved a section on the river bank opposite the Opera house where you could BYO and we set up for an unforgettable New year! It's beyond pictures and words to describe it, me and dave ended up very drunk(for a change) and nicky stayed very very sober! She decided after the whole New Zealand debacle she was limiting herself to one glass of champagne for the night! Dave left us about 4am, we sat there till 6 and had the long walk back to the station including sampling both the standard mcdonalds menu folled by the breakfast one! Had a very sad goodbye at the airport, end of a great time together and only 97 days till we're together again!
Me and dave moved to kings cross (sydney's red light district) and finnished our time in sydney with
a trip to the cricket! Which of course was thouroughly dissapointing! Especially as the beer's 3 quid a pint and only 1.5%! Fortunaltely we'd snuck our vodka and goon in with us and were in fine voice! But the cricket was terrible, we even got free tickets for the next day off a few barmy army members and ended up not going for the few hours that it took to beat us! Then off to Byron Bay!
OK Bored now! Will write more later! Probably with less detail...........................
