Edit Blog Post
Its a few days late but heres what I got up to in Sydney.
The first hostel wasnt too bad it reminded me a little of university. Different organised events every night which liturally means they take you to a pub and let you get drinkin, just like uni! Although vitually everyone there was in Sydney to work or study. The second hostel was alot better
Sydney Tower
One of the first places I visited was the Sydney Tower which is the tallest building in Sydney (double the height of the Harbour Bridge) and you can walk around the highest platform on the building (about 250metres high), you get to see the whole of Sydney with ease. Then they decide to try and scare you abit by having some of the platform made of glass. The first section of glass was above the street so of course when you looked down you saw people walking right underneath you. The second caught me by surprise it was only about 1metre wide but they get you to stand facing away from the building on your tip-toes and then suddenly the floor starts to move away from the building.
That was pretty scary your standing on glass which is getting further and further over the street, it only moves aboout a couple of metres but still. Buying this Skywalk also gave me the opportunity to go to the local Wildlife Park and Aquarium for cheap, which means loads more pics of animals. The only thing worth mentioning about this two places was in the Aquarium where i was able to feed some reef sharks and they were pretty big.
The Blue Mountains and The Three Sisters
Wow! Thats all im going to say to start with. Theres nothing like this in England. I ended up doing a day tour as it was easier. The guide was very good and took us to a view point which was amazing. You were able to see the three main valleys and a part of the Three Sisters. Im not going to go into much detail about how they got there all i was told was an aborignal witchcraft story, they do make the picture look very good though. On this tour they also took us on the World's Steepest Train even though the vid doesn't make it look
steep look at the trees to compare the angle. At the start of the ride i was basically laying down and by the steepest point on the ride i was almost standing up
Bondi and Coogee Beach
It was probably the best day for weather i had in Sydney but Bondi wasn't as good as what people had said. Even half the people I spoke to in the hostels agreed and said the beach to visit is Coogee Beach. There isn't much at Bondi, the beach isnt the biggest I have seen and there are only a few bars and restaurants. It was though full of surfers and guys working out in the beach gym, not what i want to see. Its an hour an a half walk to Coogee Beach and one of the things listed as a must do in Sydney. There were right about most of the walk apart from one small section where you have to walk through a cemetery, again not what i want to see! Coogee Beach however was alot better much bigger beach than bondi, bbq's scattered all away along the promenade for anyone to use and lots of
bars. I definitly recommend going there over Bondi.
Aussie Soccer and the Olympic Stadium
I thought as i was in Australia and have missed watching football for the past month I decided I would have to go see how good they are. I went and watched Sydney FC vs Queensland Roar and all I will say is that it was one of the worst games I have ever seen. They were so bad, I mean almost non-league level. The only thing that made watching this game worth while was the fact I got to see Bobby Petta play. He played for Town about 10years ago, i'm glad we sold him, he was one of the worst players on the pitch lol. I had a tour of the SCG which is one of Australia's best cricket grounds but my tour guide was bloody boring. At least i got to have a hit on the pitch. The main stadium which I was more excited about was the ANZ Stadium where the olympics where held 8 years ago. At the time it was 110,000 but now its slightly under 90,000 so just a bit smaller then Wembley. For those
Rugby Fans out there this was also the place where England won the World Cup against Australia! The high point of the tour was being able to stand on the actual medal stands used in the Olympics.
Climbing Sydney Harbour Bridge
What a way to end a visit! I brought the Twilight ticket where you walk up one side of the bridge during the day and walk down during the night with the city all lit up. The climb wasn't that difficult it was just steps and a few ladders. The best part of course was when I was at the top I was able to watch the sun set over the west of Sydney and see the city at the same time light up as it got darker. On the way down the view was towards the west and one of the main views was Star City, which is Sydneys Casino which of course i spent a few nights there. I was able to watch the finale of an Asian Poker Tour Tournament where first prize was 1million dollars!!!
The final picture you see is the best picture I took of the Opera House
and Harbour Bridge I think I have taken about 20 pictures of these trying to get a really good one.
I have now been in Christchurch for about 1 week and settled in nicely for Xmas and New Years. I dont think Ill write a blog for a while as I will be working and seeing the family.
