After our very late night/early morning we had a very lazy day today! We ventured back into the city heading for Kathmandu. We found that their toilet bags were on special again so purchased another toilet bag for Tracey … for the overflow toiletries. It’s handy to have a second toilet bag to organize the toiletries, etc that aren’t in use every day!

After checking out the Christmas tree in Martin Place, we found our way into H&M where Bernie found some short-sleeved casual shirts that he liked. He really wanted another pair of shorts from Fjällräven so he asked Syri to guide us there. Unfortunately, they did not have a sale on BUT they did have the shorts Bernie really likes in a different colour. Sometimes if you really like something it is worth paying full price for it!

We had hoped to return to the food court where we ate yesterday as we had spotted a gozleme (savoury Turkish pancakes) shop when we were purchasing our banh mis. Alas, the food court was not trading on New Year’s Day. In fact, there was very little food to be had in the city and what there was, was crazy busy.

Continuing with the outdoor wear theme we made our way back to the North Face store near Darling Harbour. Hmmn, they’re not paying their staff penalty rates to work on the public holiday with the store closed and dark. Ha, ha, that saved us some money.

We headed over to Darling Square for another meal, settling on Kűrtősh for a, by now, late lunch. Then it was time to make a big decision – back into Kűrtősh for cakes to take back to our room or into Gelato Messina for ice-creams?? Hmmn, let’s have cakes now and save our ice-creams for after dinner tonight!

We lazed around in our room for a while and then headed out for dumplings for dinner at the rather loftily named Harajuku Gyoza Beer Stadium. We shared dumplings (gyoza) in a couple of different flavours and accompanied those with some miso soup … and beer, of course, in Bernie’s case. We walked back to our room via Gelato Messina. Yum! We really do eat too much ice-cream when we are on holidays.
