Terrigal
This was the view from our back porch at the house we stayed in at terrigal hello again...
It has been a while since i have last posted. The main reason for that is because at our place, we are completely out of internet service. When we signed up for internet we signed up for a 200 mb per month plan, the guy at the store said that this would be plenty for us...however when we found out that our account was 4 times the limit in about 2 weeks, we had to cut it out for the rest of this month. Were not looking forward to the massive bill that we will be getting for this. So i am writing from the internet cafe down the street. We can change our internet plan for next month, so things will be better.
2 weekends ago was the weekend retreat with the church, and it was awesome. We left on thursday morning, Glen drove us. We went to a place called Terregal, it was about an hour an a half north of sydney. Its a small town with a lot of retired people, however it was pretty busy that weekend because of the 1500 college students that went, plus it was Australia day weekend, so there
Big Bird
Cool looking bird that liked to hang out at our place in terrigal...actually let me pet him for a while was alot of other people taking some time off for the weekend. Glen had organized a house for us (and about 15 other guys) to stay in. It worked out really well after splitting the price between everybody it was about the same as staying in a hotel for the weekend, and we had the advantage of being in a house. Everybody liked to hang out there, so we got to meet a lot of people. We met a lot of people that weekend. The speakers were really good, overall it was a great weekend. All the students that went were divided into 4 'tribes' and they would have these huge tribal wars where each tribe would select 5 or 6 of the biggest guys (Tom made the selection) and they would compete in the game, the funny thing was that the game would go about half way and then it would turn into a full on fist fight brawl. Things would break up pretty fast...but i guess thats what you get for putting a bunch of big guys in a competition. The people at hillsong church are very enthusiastic with everything they do, i think it is pentacostal. Its
Nice work
The first...but definitally not the last girl to do our dishes definitally different than the mennonites back home. Every sunday for example they will have stobe lights and loud music and smoke machines, that is a typical sunday service for them. The c&c is really good too, we had the first official one last night and it was really fun.
The job search still continues on, however we have been making progress. Dan and I are now full time employed. I got a job at a coffee kiosk at the university of new south wales. Its pretty fun. Its outside on a sidewalk, all we do is make coffee and sell small pastries. Its nice because all the people comming by are all young students. Its always really busy so time goes by pretty fast. The guys I am working with are also really nice and super relaxed. I am also getting paid in cash, its a nice bonus. Its funny because I had spent all this time looking for jobs and got nothing, then got 2 jobs in one day. The other one was also at a cafe, but it was an actual building and i would be doing more waiting tables and things like that (this is what
hanging out at the apartment
watching some cricket w. our new mates i would have prefered doing). But it was about 45 minutes away and didnt look like it was going to pay as well as the coffee kart. Plus the university is about a 2 minute bus ride away, the job is perfect for me rite now. Dan got a job at subway! But he didnt take that one. It was really far away and it wasn't paying too good. He ended up getting a different job as a janitor/maintenance person at this advertising company. Its actually pretty cool they are a real high class company (they produce commercials for some of the main channels on tv) so he has to shine the crome in the offices and just make sure everything is perfect. Its a little far away, but it will be good for him for now, he really needed the job. The other two guys are thinking about becomming professional beach bums. They will get a job...one day.
Life around the apartment has been pretty good. We have been having a lot of people over for dinners and stuff. They seem to like our cooking, and we have a pretty nice place to hang out because we are so close to everything, and going to the beach is really easy. Rugby season has started here, so we have been watching that. We have also figured out the game of cricket, however i don't suggest it, its very boring. The last few weeks we have been enjoying our monday morning football at the palace (pub that has espn, and fox tv). However we have not seen any hockey since we left. Seeing a game on tv would be nice, but its hard to find. We are finding that it is definitally more expensive to live around here, our grocery bills have been through the roof, however we are eating really well. We are really missing something like a costco here, so we always have to buy a lot of small packs. Peanut butter is a hot item rite now at our place, we go through about 3 jars a week! Cloths are also super expensive, so i have been shopping on ebay and its actually working out pretty good.
Anyways, good for now, dont forget to pass this link on and say hi to all the people that dont get this.
Bye for now...
