Our holiday has now come to an end. I am now sitting in Linate Airport in our first leg home, from here we fly to London and then to Sydney via Bangkok, it should take us about 32 hours to get home, I’ll be ready for a beer or two!
Over the past few days we have traveled from Lake Como to Montalcino. A 14th century city perched high on a mountain with glorious view of the surrounding country side. The experience of driving in Italy has been just that! An experience. Doesn’t appear to be a speed limit on the freeways and if there is, no one takes any notice. I was doing 140klms and cars were just flying past me.
We intended to spend the rest of our holiday in Montalcino, however we were concerned about the 7 hour drive back to the airport and making the flight in time, not to say returning the hire car, the Italians don’t do road side signs very well. This proved to be the right decision as it took Ann and I an hour and half to find the car rental returns, that’s another story.
So instead we decided to drive north to the city of Parma and were really surprised, however on the way we decide to make two stops, one in Siena for a quick tourist stop. We all wished we had more time, but that maybe next time? Our other stop was in Florence where we visited the Ponte Vecchio and Cath got the opportunity to place her lock on the bridge, the photos tell all, or search the internet for ‘Lock of love, Ponte Vecchio’. Enough of that, Cath will fill in the details. Not much more to say, but by the time I get to post this, either in London or Bangkok, and you get to read it, we should be home, all going well.
Now in Bangkok and have to wait four hours for our final flight, were both tired and ready for home.
Couldn’t get an internet connection in either London or Bangkok, so we are posting this from home. Yes we are home. Just took an hours nap, that turned into 4 hours. That’s jetlag and the fact that we have been awake for 48 hours, but now ready for drinks....................
And life returned to normal.
See you all soon.
