Today we drove down to Jenolan Caves, we left the van in Katoomba as the road is too narrow and steep for caravans.
It took us just over an hour to get down to the caves. We have not been to Jenolan Caves for many years. It was so lovely to return and walk through the Grand Arch. Today we toured the River Cave. This tour took 2 1/2 hours and was very interesting. There were one thousand two hundred and ninety eight steps in the cave and two big metal ladders to negotiate. The caves length is 1,271 meters. We thoroughly enjoyed our tour of this cave. There were many beautiful crystal formations, stalactites and stalagmites. There are numerous limestone caves at Jenolan but we only had the time to explore one of them today.
After our tour of the cave, we stopped for some lunch and then hiked around the Blue Lake. The minerals from the limestone give the lake its beautiful blue colour.
We left Jenolan and headed for Little Hartley. Mum and dad and the younger Hearn's used to holiday at Little Hartley Farm at Easter time. I think we found the holiday farm,
it has a lot of stables on it now and is now called Hartley Valley Holiday Farm. The original sandstone building is still there, it was built in 1839. Hartley Farm now has a Manager and Assistant Manager but the people we spoke to today did not know of Russ (he was the owner when we used to visit)
We then drove to Blackheath and found the Cottages that we had taken our kids to when they were little. They were still standing but had been re-cladded.
Today was a lovely trip down memory lane for us.
