Thought I would just post some normal everyday stuff in Oz over the next couple of weeks as not really done that yet in blog form.
Can’t believe we have been back from Fiji over a week now.
When we arrived back it was late and felt VERY cold. Found it hard to believe just few hours previous we were sat on the beach in bikini and sarong (well not Julian obviously). Sailed through customs with my declared shells and parchment drawings etc only to have to wait ages for Hertz to sort out a new long-term hire car under stupid terms of Selex that defies all logic. Went to bed that night in trillions of layers and bed socks!!
Once back, it was great to be able to see properly how Ebony had got on at Stoke 2012 Live. So proud of her but it was awful being so cut off from all this. Now she’s flying to Nashville tomorrow for the next one! Also while away, Josh joined a ship in Barcelona to complete the last 3 months of his sea time which he has to do before he can sit his final exam.
Although we did get a few messages through by email etc, couldn’t actually talk to him before he left either, but able to see on ships tracking system that over this last week that he’s travelled down to Valencia through the Strait of Gibraltar and just about arrived in New York. Good luck Josh!
Took Julian out for belated UK fathers day lunch in the absence of his children last Sunday. Fathers and Mothers Day in Oz is different to UK, so we can play on getting 2 now.
F.A.O. Susan & Andre Obradovic, my garlic has all sprouted and doing very well, thankyou and can’t wait for our trip up north later this month, Susan.
We have had some beautiful clear days, but have been lighting the log fire at the weekends which makes a big difference and gorgeous. It’s a long time since we’ve had a real fire and reminds me of our years in Devon. Lots of catching up on Skype and phone calls in the very small window of compatible hours either end of day.
Lots of ironing!
There is a Farmers Market every Friday down the road and ashamed to
say I only got there for the first time just before our holiday. Anyway, it’s REALLY good and VERY busy, filling well into their overflow ‘field’ car park. I was actually recognized by someone there too, my neighbour and nearly fell over in shock when I heard someone call out my name.
Something that’s really strange is seeing all the winter veg and soup stalls in June/July. It feels like it should be Christmas any day now.
School holidays have just begun for 3 weeks.
I have been back to the gym, which apart from making me feel better also has the advantage of being able to shower in the warmJ Missing my little gym buddy though. For this reason have decided to try the classes for a bit of well needed social interaction. Declined the popular 5.45am classes. I am an early bird, but that’s stretching things to the ridiculous. Who the heck wants to do Boxing, Grin or Spin at those sort of times??? Ugggh I have no idea by the way what ‘Grin’ is and don’t intend to find out??? Just got back from my first ‘Gravity Freeform’ session (about 20 in class) and
Surfside Cafe
One of our favourite little haunts in Narrabeen. it was fun (no, that’s not quite the right word), followed by a cappuccino and pumpkin & feta scone at the Surfside Café at Narrabeen (not defeating the object, of course).
Always loads of people out jogging round here and doing outdoor activities. Lots of very fit people.
Been doing some great “Big Bang” viewing. Gone back to the beginning as missed so many and loving it so much!
Still fighting the parking fine. Response to Julian’s appeal was that responsibility will now be transferred from Hertz to his name, but they need a letter from Hertz for this and we have to pay Hertz $30 for the letter on top of the $70/$80 fine. Does it look like we were parked on the highway?? Still fighting but knowing our luck, have an idea where this will end.
Friday night we went to The Sands Hotel for a drink. Live music and very busy. Only taken us 9 months to discover where everyone goes round here. Then went just along to fairly new restaurant called Barbuto that was fab too, so a really nice evening with taxi home!!!
The next morning we took the L90
bus for trip into the city, which was very civilized and only takes about 45mins. Not being a big shopper I had my first proper look at the relatively new Westfields centre. Is it just me that finds some of the big VERY expensive shops too scary to even go in? Sales are on - new handbag😊 Really like Sydney, but do miss the mix of old and modern buildings of Europe. Loved how the bus driver got his newspaper out every time stuck at red lights on the way home. So laid back.
Our friend Lynne was over from Canberra so came for a meal that evening and stayed over which was lovely and a good catch up.
Busy planning lots of fun things for when my friend, from the Isle Of Wight comes to stay at the end of the month. Yahoo, but Sue, your feet will not hit the ground and three weeks will NOT be long enough! Cant wait to go exploring with you.
Also….Sam & Eva will be here in 3 weeks time too which will be amazing. Wow. Better get some more trips planned😊
Just read how Quantas flights were disrupted after their computers crashed following 'time' being adjusted by a second. Whats that all about? I have enough trouble getting my head around 'time' changing without this.
