Camp Site at Apsley
We did not see one other camper in all the time we were there. not bad for $10 per night. DAY 41
18th December 2008
As we had decided to stay another day at Glen Innes camp site, it gave us time to catch up on general things, reading, blog and general house keeping.
The temperature last night had dropped as the night before so we put an extra blanket on the bed, that we had been given.
This morning we just couldn’t get out of bed and when we finally did at around 9.00 am we just sat around drinking tea and watching the world go by.
Robin the camp site owner came past of his sit on mover and asked if we wanted to go and have a coffee with them which we thought would just be great. In their place a Dutch Lady, who was working and cycling around Australia was also in for coffee so we spent the rest of the morning just talking.
We packed our gear away and finally broke camp at around 1.30 as we just wanted to shoot in to town as Caroline wanted to see the standing stones and show me the “Old Fashioned” high street.
Caroline was driving and we had around 300 Klicks to
My Fire WigWam
Starting the fire. get to Apsley falls. The journey was spectacular driving through what they call “New England” bizarrely enough New England is probably larger than England
We arrived at Apsley Falls at around 5.30 pm, its in the national forest where you camp, and they trust you to leave the $5.00 dollars each.
Camp is set up and Caroline is in charge of setting up and making the fire, she does a fine job, and soon we have a suitable fire that hopefully will keep the mozzies and midges away. Wood has been left by the forest rangers and there is a proprietary place to have the fire
Once the fire is set, we get about setting up the camper trailer, one night only so we don’t bother with the awning. Out comes the gas cooker and its curry and rice tonight, Caroline won’t be happy if she goes without her evening meal.
As we are sitting round our fire we are watching the birds in the evening light, a couple of birds that we think are a type of Magpie are getting closer and closer hoping we have got some food for them. As we are sitting
Come On Baby Light My Fire
This is the result of Caroline's fire building. there Caroline quietly nudges me as two (2) Kangaroo’s have hopped in and are about 100 yards away. We are quite as church mice hoping we don’t spook them, they hang around for about 10 minutes then hop it !!.
As we are discussing our Kangaroo sighting we turn around and see Red parrots of some description.
The evening light is fading fast and I am typing the blog by the light of our camp fire.
Caroline bless her, has gone from being quite sure she wanted to camp here to, “now not sure” as there are absolutely no other people around, it does take some getting used to, just to free camp away from a busy camp site. The night is unbelievably black, without any light pollution whatsoever, and the night sky is dotted with silver speckles. Which looks amazing.
I do my best to calm her fears, they are quite rational and we talk about it so I can understand what is making her feel uncomfortable. The fire is going well and it is lovely and warm, as the night temperature is dropping.
Caroline is wanting to go and get in to bed,
Curry Rice
Andy cooked dinner which I enjoyed eating! where she says she will feel more comfortable, it is only 9.00pm, but I want her to feel safe, yet embrace these experiences. I know tomorrow, she will feel differently when the daylight breaks through.
