It is 31C degrees here at Woolgoolga and it’s windy. Every afternoon a wind comes up which shakes the motor home and blows over tents. We’ve given up having the awning and our table and chairs out and instead are cooling off in the air conditioning - chilling out.

Yesterday morning we walked along Woolgoolga’s beautiful beach to the lake. Because of the recent high seas, and 'Woopi' (as it's called by locals and we who've spent our lives coming here!) losing a lot of the beach, the wreck of the ‘Buster’ is now exposed. Buster went aground along the beach around 1890. It is usually buried and once or twice we’ve seen a rib or two poking up from the sand. Now the shape is more evident. Doug was interested to see that the planks had been joined by large wooden dowels.

On our walk back from the lake, we were entertained by two or three whales, not that far out to sea. They were waving their tails, then splashing them down in the water. It’s been so great to see the whales all down the coast. There are so many, although it’s hard to see them when

Our granddparents' house was right on the beach - happy holiday memories
the sea’s chopped up with the wind.

This morning we took the motor home into Coffs Harbour for a service. Doug was quoted $900 at Darwin so decided to wait - today it cost $430 so worth the wait. Most things were more costly in the Top End. While the service was being done we walked around Coffs’ shops and then, when the motor home was ready, we drove down to the jetty and along the waterfront, always pretty there.

We leave here tomorrow, unless the wind drops and we’re tempted to stay another day or two. Then again, we might do a U turn and start heading back to Broome
... just joking ... but it would be nice!

Later this afternoon: the lifesavers had their boats out practicing just a while ago - always great to watch, even thought the seas had calmed down a lot.

The lifesavers had three of their boats out - great to watch them catching waves into the shore.
