Over the short journey to Byron Bay we changed states from Queensland to New South Wales, and went forward an hour as the south of Australia uses daylight saving in their summer. We stayed 3 nights in Byron Bay and really liked it, possibly our favourite place in Australia. As well as having a massive sandy beach with brilliant surf, the town itself was really pretty with lots of little boutique shops and small cafes and bars.

We spent one whole day on the beach in the hot hot sun and Ryan went surfing, while Amy gave it a brief try! In the evening we went to a poker tournament and met some local Aussies who all seemed very pleasant. The next day we went on a longer than expected walk (about 4 hours in the end) to the most easterly point in Australia, Cape Byron Lighthouse. The views of the bay from here were pretty spectacular as you can see from the photos!

After an enjoyable and relaxing few days, we got back on the Greyhound bus for an overnight journey to Syndey...
