So Olly's gone to New Zealand and the girlies have flown in to meet me for the next part of my adventure! This blog wont be as interesting as Ollys! As he is better at writing these than me but ill give it a shot!
I met up with Lauren who had been on a week long surf course the morning Olly flew to Christchurch so I only had a few hours to myself before the next part of my adventure began! Lauren had been on an overnight bus and I had been woken extremely early in the morning when Olly left so we lazied around for most of the day. The next morning we were woken by a phone call from Jenny who had just flown in from England on a 24 hour flight, she managed to make it to Central station but couldnt find the hostel. After we found her she settled in and had a nap before we showed her the sights of Sydney (including the famous Harry's Pies for lunch!)
We headed back as we werent sure what time Alys was arriving (oh yes we are obviously the most organised girls in the world!) We knew
it would be in the evening so we went for a quick shop on our way home, and had some food in the Bar below our Hostel. After food we got a text message from Alys to say she was at Central station but thought she had come out the wrong exit. We made friends with some of the security guards and sent them looking for her and after several descriptive text messages she managed to find us.
Due to Jenny and Alys being so tired we decided to call it a night.
The next day we went to the Zoo, which was about the only thing left on my "Sydney to do list". We saw so many different animals, most of which we didnt know what they were! Taronga zoo was amazing and we went to see the seal show which was incredible. After the zoo Lauren headed off to say goodbye to her friend from Sydney, while I showed the girls some more of Sydney. As tonight was our last night we went out for some drinks and managed to meet up with some old friends Tom and Dan who have been travelling for like 6 months!
So that was lovely to see them although they did buy far to many jugs of cocktails. What with all the excitement of seeing everyone we didnt go to bed until about 3.
Normally this wouldnt have been a problem but considering we hadnt packed and our bus left at 6.30 the next morning it wasnt a good idea!
We woke up with 5 minutes to spare, and shoved anything we could find into our bags, none of us were feeling very well at this point, especially not me! And the idea of a 8 hours coach journey was not sounding good!
I couldnt sleep and after hours of being thrown around on a bumpy bus, I was sick...I managed to open the window and not get anyone, but it was still really embarassing and I felt sorry for anyone driving behind us at the time! Whoops! So from then on I was known as the girl who threw up! I was never one for making a good first impressions.
Eventually we got to Surf Camp and got kitted out in our surf gear for our lesson. This I was dreading...Ive never surfed before and didnt think it was
really for me. We had an embaressing theory lesson on the sand and then we went for it. Me and Jenny held back abit and let Lauren and Alys show us how its done, but after a while we managed to stand up a few times. By the end of the day I had really enjoyed myself.
Our instructors were typically Oz Surfers and kept saying "dude" all the time, and we were staying in tiny cabins but the food was fantastic.
After the night before we decided to have an early night.
We got up early again and headed of to Byron Bay, by this point we had made friends with the majority of our bus and it seemed like our 4 had suddenly become 20.
Some hours later we pulled up opposite the famous Cheeky Monkeys nightclub, and checked into Holiday Village. We were at the back of the queue and ended up in seperate rooms, but it wasnt too bad as I had some really nice people in mine.
We walked down the main street got some icecreams and then got ready for our first night out in Cheeky Monkeys. There isnt a dance floor
in there instead everyone dances on the tables and benches, which was a new experience but quite fun.
The next day we hit the beach it was our first proper day at the beach and we intended to make the most of it. We met up with Harriet (a friend from school, who is currently living in Byron) and spent the day lazing around at the beach. After a few hours I needed some shade so I headed back to have a nap. The three of them woke me later and they had all burnt! Silly girls!
That night we had a repeat performance of the night before with our bus load of people, as we were leaving the next day we had to say goodbye to most of them as they were staying in Byron for alot longer than us.
Before we left Byron we booked our Fraser Island and Whitsundays Trips as these were both things that we definately wanted to do. We then spent hours on the internet updating blogs and uploading photos.
After a subway we headed off on our bus to Surfer's Paradise.
Surfer's Paradise is a 45 Km beach, which is absolutely gorgeous,
however due to all the high rise buildings the beach is mostly in the shade from about 3pm. We met up with Matt Thomas for a drink and he told us about how he had been so lucky as to meet Take That (yeah the band!) earlier on that day. SO JEALOUS!!!
We spent the next day on the beach with Matt and then headed off, so that Lauren and Jenny could go Zorbing. Zorbing as most of you probably know is basically getting inside a giant ball and rolling down a hill! Sounds crazy and looks crazy! This is something that Olly is gonna try to convince me into doing in New Zealand.
We had 2 nights in Brisbane however we didnt do much in the day, we even ended up going to the cinema, which is what we all needed!
Our coach left Brisbane at 6am on the 14th March, which was not fun! Today we were travelling all the way up to Hervey Bay which is where we will be doing our Fraser Island trip from.
Our first stop was a service station where we feasted on cheese toasties! MMM. Our driver then decided he was
gonna show us a viewpoint, so after a 30mins steep climb we made it. It was a nice view however we had been eaten alive by midgeys on the way up and down.
Im covered in bites!
We then went to Noosa for lunch and on to Rainbow Beach where we were told some aborignal stories and then the boys had a digereedoo lesson.
When we finally arrived in Hervey Bay we cleaned up and went out for a meal with our friends from the buses...however the drivers never actually showed up.
Onto Fraser Island....
