Hello all from OZ
The day starts at about 3 am… with us freezing lol it was cold. Jason got up and fired up the furnace, which made things better. Wes crawled into bed with us as he got cold. The furnace works nice, but makes a bit of noise.
The day part 2 starts around 7:30 we get up, and are a little more organized than yesterday. Breakfast is made and everyone gets showered. Today our destination is the Jenolan caves, apparently they’re very nice. I’m not sure what it is with us, but wherever we go we’re into some sort of cave. Carlsbad, NM, Maui, HI, even the caves up in Collingwood… we’ve been to them all; I wonder if Fiji will have some lol. Anyhow, the drive to the caves was something else. Very narrow for the bus we have, and literally cliffs at the roads edge that drop hundreds of feet. You definitely want to pay attention on this road. We take 20 minutes to go 5 kms, and thank god there wasn’t any traffic coming up the mountain. So we get to the bottom, park the bus and get our
tickets. The tour starts in 15 minutes… perfect timing. We’re off to visit the “Lucas” cave. This cave has over 900 steps and the tour lasts 1.5 hours. What’s nice about this cave tour is we have a guide, who explains all the history of the cave. It’s the second place in the world to receive electric lights (way back in 1880) Before that people used to crawl around in there using candles, and let me tell ya if they lost them they were SOL big-time, as it’s pitch black in there. Our guide shows us the various rooms in the cave, some of its special features. They even used to have church services in here in the 1940’s. There is one room, the cathedral room where they have concerts here. Pretty spectacular sound, as they played a small sample for us. I’m impressed with the tour. I think Carlsbad, NM is a more impressive cave, but this cave with a tour guide gives you more info.
So the tour is over, we stop by the restaurant here to get some grub… and head off towards Blackheath. We take a different route up the mountain, much less hectic thank
god. We arrive in Blackheath around 4:00 sign in, and setout to explore the town. Not really too much to see except for the usual restaurants serving the fried stuff. Surprised to me there is an IGA store here, and I though they only existed in Canada. We get a few things there, and head back to the park. Wes spots a pool just across from the RV Park so we’re off there swimming. While Kirk and Wes are swimming we met the guy who runs the pool and we’re talking to him for a half hour or so. The pool closes at 6 so we say goodbye. The pool guy is very nice and gives us lots of info on what to do and where to go here in OZ. We head back to the campervan, and visit the duck pond at the end of our driveway. I think we’ll go there tomorrow to feed them. Just over in the park is a flock of umbrella cockatoo’s that we got really close to, maybe 15 feet.
The day’s pretty much over, after we made dinner.
More tomorrow folks.
