Hello again!
Hope that all is well and that it's not too cold back in the states!! I'm doing great down here in this beautiful place! 😊 (not trying to rub it in... i promise!)
Well, the last two days have been full and awesome... yesterday, we woke up and took a train to Bondi Beach. When we first got there, we stopped at the mall and Kara took me to her favorite sundress store... I gave in and bought a really cute tropical dress (hopefully to where in the Whitsunday Islands this week) and it was only $15 Australian dollars! (around $11 American!) After that, we had some lunch and then headed to the beach.
Bondi was really beautiful, the sand was very fine and the water so blue and clear!!! We also got to see a few surfers 😊 It was about 95 degrees, so we definitely got a nice tan and picked a good day to go. At about 4:30, we got up and walked on the path from Bondi Beach to Bronte-Coogee. SO beautiful... and I have tons of pictures to prove it... we walked past about 5 different beaches and parks... lots of hills and cliffs and rocks and basically amazing!! It took us about 2 hours to walk and then we had to walk all the way back to Bondi to catch the bus, so we were able to get a lot of good exercise. Once we got home around 8, we were pretty exhausted, so we just chilled for the rest of the night....
This morning we woke up at 7 to head out on our tour of the Blue Mountains. The Blue Mountains is about a 25 minute drive out from Sydney, and called the "Grand Canyon of Australia". When we first got on the bus, we met a girl named Danielle, from Canada. She's traveling in Australia for 2 months on her own and is about our age (very bold and I hope that I am brave enough to do that someday... my next traveling goal!)... anyways, she was really nice and spent the day with Kara and I on the tour.
On the way we were also able to stop at Olympic Park to take a few pictures. After that, we stopped at the Nepean River briefly and took a few pictures there as well. Next, we went to Wentworth Falls (a beautiful waterfall) and walked down a path to see the waterfall on a close lookout. It was absolutely stunning! The path was supposed to take an hour and we only had 30 minutes, so we went as far as we could without being late... we still had to book it back as the way back to the bus was all up hill! When we got to the bus we were about 3 minutes late... the bus driver was not amused. We also went to a place called Evan's Lookout, which overlooks the Blue Mountains and also went to another look out which shows the famous "Three Sisters" Rock formation. We then stopped in the Garden Village of Leura to grab some lunch... Kara, Danielle, and I went to a cafe there and I tried out a milkshake... they are actually much milkier here and not as thick... but still good!! Finally, we went to a wildlife park and were able to see Kangaroos!!! We saw 2 kangaroos and 2 cockatoos. I took a few pictures, but both of the kangaroos were laying down so I didn't get the best shots. The bugs out there were crazy, too... they really don't have mosquitoes around here, but a TON of flies that just circle around your head... it drove me nuts!!! By that time of the day it was about 100 degrees... incredibly hot, but I really can't complain. We then got on a ferry and took it back into Sydney... a nice cruise to end the day.
We just got back a little bit ago and I went out for a run again by the Opera House and in the Botanical Gardens. .. very refreshing, although it was still extremely hot, and with all that we did today, I didn't run for too long. Now we are back at Kara's place- we just ordered some pizza and are going to pack for our trip and watch a movie tonight. Our flight leaves at 7 am tomorrow for the Whitsunday Islands and I am SO excited!!! I've talked to a few people here about it, and from what they said, it's like tropical paradise!!! We are staying in a hostel there for 5 days and 4 nights and I can't wait to see the Great Barrier Reef!
That's all for now, have a good evening/day/night... whatever time it is there! 😊 (We're 17 hours ahead here, I'll let you do the math!)
