We made ferry resevaitions yesterday for the Whittier, AK to Bellingham, WA way home. Glad we did this as we are still 7 months out from leaving, and the ferry was down to 6 rooms with windows already. We depart Whittier June, 2012. Using that, we backed up the date to determine when we would departure home. The current planned routing is;
Day 1: Home to Sioux City, SD – 631 miles
Day 2: Sioux City, SD to Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, Canada – 510 miles
Day 3: Portage la Prairie to Lloydminster, Alberta, Canada – 630 miles
Day 4: A - Lloydminster to Grande Prairie,Alberta, Canada – 435 miles B – Lloydminster to Dawson Creek, British Columbia, Canada – 519 miles
Day 5: A – Grande Prairie to Ft Nelson, BC – 366 miles B – Dawson Creek to Ft Nelson BC – 282 miles
Day 6; Ft Nelson to Watson Lake, Yukon, Canada – 319 miles
Day 7: Watson Lake to Whitehorse, Yukon – 272 miles
Day 8: Whitehorse to Tok, Alaska – 387 miles
Day 9: Tok to Fairbanks, Alaska – 204 miles
Day 10 & 11: Rest and Arctic Circle (wx dependant – 462 miles round trip) in Fairbanks
Day 12: Fairbanks to Whittier, Alaska (Ferry) – 419 miles
Days 13-17: Ferry from Whittier, AK to Bellingham, WA
Day 17 on: Bellingham, WA to home – 2191 miles
As we make it through the winter and spring, I'm sure we'll make some adjustments, but it's just a plan, so regardless what we end up with, we're headed north to Alaska just over 7 months from now! It's going to be a long winter.
