The Invention of Lying (USA 2009, 100 mins)
Hmhp, funny plot with a world where no lies are told, because nobody knows that not telling the truth is an option. For the main character (Ricky Gervais) that means a low score on the human biology meter. So when he gets a shot at a girl far above his league, there really is no hope in the world portrayed. Alas, in comes the Invention of Lying plot, that saves the day for Ricky, but not the movie.

La battaglia di Algeri (Italiy, Algerie 1966, 121 mins)
Possibly the best account told of any war/revolution/terror attack/civilization clash etc. Realistic to the core, it still holds almost fifty years after it's release. Will there ever be such a good portrait coming out about the Arab Spring/Jasmine revolution in 2011? If ever, it'll knock down a dusin or so Oscars in the near future.
