Blythe Island Tour
I rose early this morning feeling rested and ready to go. The camper was a mess from 3 days of travel so the first order of business was to put things away and sweep out the dirt. After that was accomplished the world was a much better place.
After walking Oscar and settling him in the camper, my friend John came and picked me up and we were off on a tour of the area.
First we went to Jekyll Island and stopped at the beach access park and walked down to the sand. The dunes were beautiful and the ocean was flat and sparkling in the sun. As we walked along we had to stop and pick up some shells and found 2 sand dollars, they will go in a wind chime. There were a few birds but not many. The tide was going out and there was dry sand very far out with people walking who looked like little dots. They better keep an eye on the tide if they want to have dry feet on the way back.
The homes were smaller than I thought they would be but
built well and very well maintained. There were some near the ocean that were quite grand and they all were surrounded by the magnificent live oaks, dripping with spanish moss. There was a canopy over the road.
Next was St Simons Island which was similar but with more expensive homes. We stopped and took a walk on a fishing pier were we talked to 2 fisherman who weren't doing much catching. They informed us that we just missed a pod of dalphins, oh darn! I took a picture of the light house and some homes along the shore but the best subject was a man feeding the birds. He was sitting on the park bench with a bird on his head and one on his arm while another was taking food from his hand. We asked if they pooped on his head and he said, "Oh sure, everyday, but it washes right out". He feels really lucky....
We stopped at a local eatery for lunch and sat upstairs on the outside porch and had a delightful lunch in the sun and 68 degree temps. Wow what a treat!
We found another pier for a different view then
went to a bird viewing location. There was a bench at the edge of the water and we sat there enjoying the sun and the view. There was not much bird activity but all of a sudden a little black critter carrying a fish ran from the water, over the sand and dissapeared in the rocks. He was so fast I couldn't even get the camera up to my eye let alone take his picture. It was an otter with lunch.
By then it was time to head back to camp and take Oscar for a walk. He was happy to see me and after a good smell of the area he was ready to come back in and settle for the night, so was I.
Tomorrow is an early start to get to Thousand Trails in Clermont.
I have done this a little different tonight so hopefully there will be something that makes sense.
