Seal Lions

Pier 39 has been the home for a large group of seal lions for the past 22 years. They make a heck of a noise!

Turning the Cable Car

Turning the cars is still done by hand as it was way back when.

Cable Car

One of the best experiences a person can have is on a cable car. I was lucky enough to get a seat right in the front. The drivers are very humourous which just adds to the pleasure.

Steepness

San Francisco is known for the steepness of it's streets and it is hard to imagine what life must be like here. A person would certainly develop strong legs.

Hanging Baskets

Hanging baskets of flowers are all over San Francisco.

Monterey Harbour

I was really impressed by Moterey it is a very clean, friendly city - as well as being beautiful

Monterey Aquarium

The aquarium is the largest in California and was amazing. I had NO idea there were so many varieties of sea horses.

Jellies

There was also a large exhibit of jelly fish. Some of them as small as a quarter (5 pence in England or 20 cents in S.A.)

Cannery Row

Monterey was home to a large number of sardine canneries. When the down turn in the industry occurred the old canneries were turned into restaurants, hotels, speciality shops, etc.

The Spectactular Bougainvillia

The bougainvillias climb add to the beauty of Cannery Row.

Big Sur

I drove down the coast to Big Sur. Such a beautiful drive - the California coast is certainly hard to beat!

Cliff House

Imagine living in this cliff house. Nice when the weather is good, but not great if the wind is coming off the ocean the way it frequently does.

17 Mile Drive

The 17 mile drive through Pebble Beach. Such beautiful scenery.

Mansion

This is just one of the single family dwelling mansions that are visible from the 17 mile drive.

Lone Cypress

There is a type of cypress tree that only thrives on the California coast, This one is perched on the end of an outcrop for more than 250 years.
