I'm sitting on a couch in LA's valley area and i guess i'm just waiting to see what's gonna happen next. I'm getting on a flight in about 24 hours, don't really know how i feel about that.
Before we get to that i guess i've got to recap what brought me here. Last time i checked in I was headieng west out of DC towards the Hawkeye state! I felt pretty bad that it took me the better part of a year to finally catch up with my main man and ex-housemate Ben Olberdingerererer. Fear not, however, the time we spent together, just chillin in the Coralville, IA firestation (yeah you heard me, the guy lives in a firestation) was super chill but the real highpoint was the same highpoint that that anybody who goes to the midwest is gonna have. Goddamn Vollege football!!!!
I was super lucky to be in town for two, count 'em, two Hawkeye homegames. The first one we spent in the bars during the game and got to bask in a great win in what is really a pretty ridiculous situation of packed bars and hammered college kids. The following week though, we
really upped the ante and, starting with a tailgate at 7am we drank and were happy. Then we headed to the game and let me say, for sure, that football is a big deal in Iowa, a really big deal. The town itself has a population of a little over 65,000 people and Kinnick Stadium holds 75,000 people. Add to that the fact that on game day the bars are also crazy packed and you become to reallise just how epic this shit really is. For the record the Hawks lost but at the end of the day that fact was largely irrelevant, the stdium was epic, the game was epic, the seats were epic. The whole damn thing was epic. I think after this entire year I can say, categorically that the one recomendation I can give someone going to the states is that they NEED to see some college football, preferably in the mid west. Forget the NFL, head straight to the beating heart of this crazy country.
After a week or so in Iowa I packed up one last time and took the last trip in the Green Machine and, fittingly it was to the snow
covered haven that is Bozeman Montana. It's important to note that as soon as i arrived the temperature began to plummet and by the weekend when we were planning on hitting up the 111th Brawl of the wild (MSU v UofM) it had bottomed out at around -15C. Everybody seemed to have no problem with this but we decided that it would be best to spend the day indoors. I also got to spend my Birthday in Bozeman which was superchill and had a really good time just chilling.
I got rid of the Car in Montana and headed back to New Mexico in time for Thankgiving (epic), Erin's graduation (epicer), a trip to Vegas for a few days filled with mostly losing but enough winning to make the thing worthwhile. Oh, and KA is on hell of a Cirque du soleil show! I mean seriously, at one stage the stage itself was totally horizontal. Seriously intense (epicerer). Then we had an awesome christmeas with Erin and her entire family which was super chicll (epicererer) and had a chilled New Years with my New Mexico crew (epicest!).
From there the real trip home started, I flew to San Fran for a few days of chilled touristing followed by more of the same in San Diego. It was good to see Mattue and the big Lippi in San Fran even if only for a few days and the mid winter 25C-ish temperatures of San Diego made the few I spent their with Erin was trully awesome.
So that brings us here, the end of an 11 month trip including 15k miles of driving 20k miles of flying, sleeping in almost 50 different places and meeting some of the best people anybody could ever hope to meet. I could never say thankyou enough to all the people that have hung out with me over the last year or so. I could never have imagined just how far this trip would take me. From LA to New York, Texas to Ottawa and every place, person and thing inbetween this trip has been a defining experience in my life.
God Bless you all and God bless America, the greates country on earth!
I'll be back soon, i promise.
