USS Arizona memorial
We woke up this morning and had breakfast, then packed to head out. We left our luggage at the hotel. Our first stop was the USS Arizona Memorial. We were glad we went; it was a very moving experience.

Our next was stop Manoa Falls. The description called for an easy hike. We figured we didn’t need to bring anything special. The hike started on a paved area, that then turned to gravel. We were happy and excited. Then the trail turned to loose, fist-sized rocks that were wet and muddy and the trail had a steep grade. The trail went on and on, up and up. At one point we had to cross a water mud pit on two small logs that rolled when you stepped on them. They should have warned us that we needed hiking shoes and hiking sticks. Eventually, we saw the falls then ate lunch. Everyone commented on how forward thinking we were to have brought lunch with us. Next, we had to reverse the process and head down. Claire finally found a very “weak” hiking branch that Susan was glad to use.

After finally making it back to the car in our stinky, sweaty clothes, we headed to Diamond Head. There we walked a bit of the trial but the hot 1pm sun kept us from going too far. We then relaxed under macadamia trees to cool off. On our drive back to the hotel to get our luggage, we chose to drive the back side of Diamond Head. There we saw a light house and some beautiful Hawaiian coast.

We then took the rental car back to the airport and took a taxi to the cruise ship. Check-in wasn’t hard and they gave us a live flower lei. We headed to our room. THIS IS NOT VIKING. First, the pictures of the room on the web site don’t truly represent the room. The room is about 2/3 or less the size of our river boat cruise which is smaller than the Viking Ocean cruise rooms. The room is all beds since there are 3 of us. Claire is on the pull-out sofa. The pull-out sofa… It’s the size of a kid 10 or less, really, really. Claire will be sleeping in the fetal position or sideways a lot. Our deck is large and we are on the end of the boat so that is good. There is a little closet and few places to store clothes and the bathroom is tiny. This is not what Susan and Claire are used to.

Before dinner Pam and Susan took hula lessons. Who wants to pay me for the video?

Dinner was good but the waitress, lost Claire’s room card when she took it to charge for the wine. Then the boat started up. We thought bigger ships rocked less. This ship is rocking and rolling. We headed back to our room after dinner and our luggage had FINALLY arrived. Yes, we had to go to dinner in our stinky clothes. We unpacked and cleaned up, just in time to head to bed.
