Our first stop this morning after a nice breakfast of sausage and pancakes was LeHardy Rapids to see if we could spot any trout in the morning sunlight. The light was better, but I never saw any fish nor was the pelican there yet. Bob said he saw three trout close to the roughest of the rapids.

We were going to go next to the south rim of the canyon, but the road was closed to vehicular traffic. So instead we went to the Upper Falls Rim overlook and then drove the north rim road, stopping at Lookout Point and Grand View overlooks. The upper falls are powerful, with so much water falling with such force that mist rises from the rocks below.

From Canyon Village we drove north, over Dunraven Pass at 8,859’ to Tower Junction, where we turned east into the Lamar Valley. The road through Lamar Valley is known as the wildlife road. After stopping for lunch, we headed out through Lamar Valley. We saw lots and lots of bison, one very large herd with many calves. We saw a few pronghorn antelope; first a mother and baby, then later two females and one male. We

saw ground squirrels and osprey, The Lamar Valley is quite picturesque, with creeks, the Lamar River, forests, hills and mountains.

On our way back we saw a black bear between Tower and Mt. Washburn. We saw some elk this morning, Canadian geese, and a grey wolf. We saw plenty of buffalo.

We turned into the south rim drive, which was now open, and drove to Artist Point. There we had a great view of the Upper and Lower Yellowstone Falls and the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone with its colorful rock walls. A fitting end to a glorious day.
