Sunday dawned with concern for Lynus. He had not really been himself for a day or so but this morning he had trouble walking and was stiff legged. He held his neck straight out and was not himself. Ginnie called the emergency vet hospital because, of course, it was Sunday and no regular hours for the doctors. There was a hospital not far and in 15 min Ginnie and Lynus were on their way. After a few hours they were back and the doctor thought the meds he prescribed would do the thrick.
Later that day there was a good improvement and we are all breathing a sigh of relief.
Saturday night Ginnie and I had decided to stay another night at this campground and forgo a visit to Devil's Tower. We had been keeping a busy pace and we both agreed that a day off would be good for all. So when Lynus needed to go to the doctor it didn't alter our plans at all.
We took it easy on Sunday and Monday morning we were up and excited about Lynus's improvement and ready to head to the
Tetons. On the road by 10 with a stop at Walmart and for gas we headed south to Hot Springs then west toward Edgemont then Redbird and Rusk. We followed rt 18, a two lane 65 mph road, through the country. There was very little traffic and we enjoyed seeing the cattle ranches, horses and occasional pronghorn antelope. First there were big gullies then that turned into rolling hills but all very dry and parched. There was a stream or river now and then with cottonwoods growing along the bank.
We drove past little towns with populations of 4 some bigger with 1,000 but never more than one car on the road around us.
I had plans to get to Riverton today but we were tired from driving so we stopped in Casper and found a campground along the Platt River. It was blistering hot when we got there, 93, so we plugged in and cranked the AC on. As the sun went down the temp dropped just in time for the dogs night walks. We went along the Platt for a short time, smelling the willows and feeling the breeze turn from hot to cool and back
to warm again. Strange. There was a small dog park on the way back so we stopped there to let the dogs play a bit. There was a little boy in the playground that wanted to come and play with the dogs so his dad jumped the fence and brought him over. He enjoyed all 3 dogs then Watson and Alfy decided to show off. They raced after each other dodging and hiding and back at a foot race again. Alfy could outrun Watson but Watson could outmanover so it was a fun game. Watson got backed into a corner and didn't know what to do then another time ran under Lynus for protection. Good time.
It was time to turn in and there are now 3 bodies sprawled out on the camper floor. They beat us to bed.
Tomorrow it's through Togwotee Pass (remember Dee?) and to the Tetons, my favorite place on earth.

Day off
Glad to see that Lynus is ok! Sorry you missed Devil's Tower. We found it fascinating and saw the most beautiful sunset on the way back to motel.
