Seattle – the Emerald City, day 1

We arrived in the city of Seattle today; as we left the airport we felt the wonderful cool weather which was such a welcoming change. It wasn’t raining, and we were happy about that. We checked into our hotel, the Best Western Airport Executel, which is located south of the city and near the airport. The price of the car parking at the inner city hotels didn’t seem worth the high price, so we are giving this a try instead since this hotel offers free parking.

Elliott’s was our dinner of choice this evening (on recommendation of a friend). The food was fabulous! I registered at their online site, before we left on this trip, and they sent me a $25.00 off coupon. Since we arrived before the dinner hour opened, we sat at the bar for happy hour and enjoyed some wine and appetizers. I had the raw oysters (a mix from different areas) and they were so good. Robert chose the salmon fritters and they were awesome. When dinner seating opened we were seated at a window table where we could see the ferry ships coming and going. I had

the Crab cakes served with fragrant rice and shredded veggies; Robert had the salmon served with polenta. A great experience at this place for the food and ambience.

We drove around the wharf area and located where the cruise ships come and go. Since we are going on an Alaskan cruise next year, we wanted to familiarize ourselves with that area.

It’s amazing how many people ride bikes here. Also, the name of the city is “the emerald city” and it’s easy to see why. There are beautiful green pine trees and grassy areas everywhere.
