North Before
Note the red "X" on the tree? Last summer was so great! We have met such wonderful friends and great neighbors; attended our grandson’s 6th birthday party; sold a boat load of things out of our massive amounts of “stuff” in storage; got the property all set up for the trailer and shop; traded the Kia in on a mountain goat; explored parts of the mountains we could never have gotten to in the Kia; and saw a lot of wildlife. I know I haven’t kept up very well on our blog, but we have virtually no internet on the property. The only way we were able to get online was to go into Republic which is about 30 miles from the property. I was usually on long enough to check some mail, do our bills, catch up with the family on facebook and look up some recipes. I really miss the contact with the outside world – I felt so detatched, alone, separated... Now that I am plugged back in, I feel like more of a whole person….
We all love being out on the property. Allie has become a pretty good watch dog. It’s funny, if Allie barks, Lucy comes running as fast as she can
North After
Now that is A LOT of clearing . Bob raked his little heart out! toward her. She knows that if Al is barking, there is something potentially much bigger than her, and Al will protect her… The property, and undoubtedly our neighbors as well, are missing a bunch of mice, a few birds (despite me telling her “NO BIRDS”), and a couple of HUGE packrats. There was a pair of chipmunks that moved into our woodpile (notice I said
was). I warned them that they were taking their lives into their own hands living so close to where Lucy hunts, but they stayed – and lasted a couple of days. I did warn them…
Anyway, we walked through all the necessary red tape and got our septic and drain field installed. We ran the power and water lines to the trailer, and even built a small deck, so next year we will be able to just back into it and hook up. Bob added on to the outhouse and made a little storage area for tools, the big freezer and the washer. Bob put up a fence over a good portion of the perimeter of the property (primarily to keep unwanted hunters from camping or hunting there), and have done a lot of exploring
in the mountains. The mountain goat we got is a 98 Jeep Wrangler that we affectionately call Percy, the mountain goat. It’s opened yet another dimension to our explorations in the toolies. Saw some incredible views up in the mountains there. Next year we should be able to get even better pictures to post (when I am again reunited with my electronic world).
I went to Germany to get my hands on our granddaughter, Alyson Shea. It was a great 2 ½ weeks (this trip will be covered in the Germany segment of the blog). Bob got the trailer ready for the road while I was gone, prepared the property for the winter and met me over on the west side. We stayed for a couple of weeks to visit before our winter trip to Arizona. We left first week of November hoping to make it to Parker within 3-4 days, but didn’t quite… We were on Shasta Mountain when our engine light came on. When we got to Redding, Bob took the truck in to see what was going on and we found out that the turbo had gone out. Yikes! Thank goodness for the warranty! Anyway, it put
Such a view!
We had to take out the back seat for Allie. She loves going up the mountains without the top! us behind by a couple of days, but we were still able to stop and see Chris for lunch. It was a great, but short visit. On our overnight stay in Bakersfield, we woke up to a flat tire on the trailer which Bob had to change before we could leave. We were able to get a new spare before heading out, but a guy at a gas station in Needles scared us by telling us that we had 3 other trailer tires that would never make it to Parker without flying apart. Oh, joy! Despite having to drive at night, we made it all the way to Parker and after a couple of moves, we have made it to our riverfront spot and have settled in quite nicely. There will be more details to come, but this is already long enough… Everyone take care and God bless!
