Happy Birthday Debby ! Today consisted of an easy wake up, a slow pack up, then getting the pick-ups and trailers back to the respective donors. Once all this was accomplished, Deb and I headed for Johnson City and a motel to take it easy and to get some laundry done. We now are heading for New England and the Maritime Provinces of Canada.

We left Tennessee via the Blue Ridge Parkway and rolled on into Virginia. This road is nicely built, rides the ridges with amazing views on both sides, and can drive one crazy with the 45 mph speed limit. Once I was in "cruiser" mode though, it was very enjoyable. We found a cool little campground, cabin and motel spot just over the border near a place called Fancy Gap. We opted for a cabin, one room, no facilities, but the shower house was close and very clean. This was the first shower house I've run across with individual little rooms each containing sink, toilet and shower. Good hot water and good spray coverage. We had a fire in the ring, sat on the "porch" overlooking the cherry trees,
and discussed the next few days travel plans.

We have a date with my best friend from high school, Ran Farmer and his wife Jana who live in Reston VA which is just outside of D.C. so we continued to the north end of the Blue Ridge Pkwy. With about 10 miles to go, I realized that Bear was sucking fumes. Fortunately it was almost all downhill to the nearest gas station, where I proceeded to put 8.825 gallons into my 8.7 gallon tank. Phew. Good thing I was getting 43 mpg along the pkwy. We continued for a while along the Skyline Drive, then slipped down off of the ridges and ran on into Reston for a late dinner and overnight stay at Ran's house. Of course he and I were up late catching up on the news as we'd not seen each other since about this time last year, at the EAA Air Venture in Oshkosh WI. Jana and her mom, Vera, had made a great meal, and even Ran helped by creating "chicken burgers" for us. They were actually very good. I think he may have another business opportunity there.

Jana took us to a beautiful Public Garden nearer D.C. and we had a wonderfully tranquil walk amongst the blooming flowers, the ponds filled with turtles, fish and geese, and a great little gift shop. Then Deb and I headed for Sandy Point State Park, which is right by the Chesapeake Bay Bridge, about 5 miles from my Dad's house in Annapolis MD. Once we arrived, we found to our dismay that there was no camping allowed, so after a few false starts and some phone calling, we ended up at the Capitol KOA, situated smack in-between D.C., Baltimore and Annapolis. We paid a little extra for electric, and were lucky with our tent placement because once the rain began we had a nice little creek running right through our vestibule. Happily, the tent stayed dry as it was on a slight hump.

Up there
Rick, Do Not change Headings We came down to FL. to spend a week with Grandson and it is remarkably hot and sticky. I think next year we may fly him to Bar Harbor for a little hiking. we're at the Marriott in Orlando so it does have a nice pool and cold beer. I just got the word from Falcone that my bike was done. They had to replace the rear hub bearing. It was so strange, it seemed like the sound was coming from the front but all the things going on I couldn't pin it down. So I took it in and they reworked the front end and found that it was the rear end. I'm just glad it's done and I don't have to refi. The bill was 504 thats so cool. Next month I'm going to Canada for a fishing trip so I'll suffer down here another 3 days to see Jr it's well worth it. Sorry we missed you at the MOA.
