JR's Outlet
Lulu waits patiently from her perch The winds have been blowing....not at our backs but across us. I am almost ready to dig out the scopalamine patch we got for the cruise in case we got seasick. Between the horrible bumpy road of Rt. 95 and the rocking of our big box boat.....raaaallph (puke sound). I can hardly write this blog....my fingers are all over the place like I am playing a piano with 49 fingers with mittens on. And forget playing my games - all I get is "poor connection" so it either freezes or I get kicked off the table because I haven't spun when actually it is spinning so fast it is like a blur wheel. Feel sorry for me? I hope so. Yesterday, our travels were broken up with a delightful and productive stop. Cory pulled into "JR's".....one of my most favorite places. This is where they advertise that they sell everything from "brassieres to chandeliers" and they are right! It's all here under one big roof. Sometimes we stop at another JR's on Rt. 77 at Statesville, N.C when we are going down to Florida. This year we passed it by. But we made it up at this visit: $225.00 and 2
hours later. I had to sample all the perfumes so by the time we left, I smelled like a French whore. Cory calmly moaned as he loaded our big shopping bags into our well packed car for the ride home. We had to travel with our windows open because of my aromatic stench....raaaallph. Even Lulu turned up her nose. We drove for a couple hours longer and stopped for the night. It was only 4:00 but the campground we wanted to stay at was at hand. We have stayed here the past couple years: The RV Resort at Carolina Crossroads in Halifax, N.C. Not wanting to rehash the entire saga of our elopement and marriage (you've had several occasions to endure (and enjoy?) that)......I will just remind you: Halifax is where we were married by the Justice of the Peace 50 YEARS ago! So, to add to our half century marriage celebration, we walked the walk again....50 years later! We did the same last year at this time but then it was only 49 years. And lucky you....I took many photos so you can walk the walk with us....again! I think I have already told you (as you age, you
RV Resort
Halifax, N.C. - the Office tend to repeat yourself, you know) that sometime in the late '80's, we had stopped in Halifax so I could take memory pictures since we had none from our "wedding". For whatever reason, the photos all came out black.....why?? A message? Who knows. We never went back until recently. So much has changed over these many years. The Main Street is paved where before it was dirt. No one is on the Main Street where before the old men of the town sat, bent over, on the store front stoops and curbs - spitting tobacco into the dirt road. The courthouse is still the main focal point and beautiful....this is where Cory & I passed through the door to apply for our marriage license. So young and so in love. Now we are so old but still in love. Our biggest shock came as we rode the streets trying to find the vine covered trellis leading to the quaint white cottage where the JP married us. Last year, we found it: an old dilapidated, rotting shack surrounded by crime scene tape...'member? This year, we went up and down every street in town ( it's small) and couldn't find it. Why,
Parked on our site
Lulu surveys it all. you ask. Cause it wasn't there! That's right.....where once this marital hitching bungalow stood - there was nothing! Only two of the large, cement pillars that we nervously passed through to skip down the sidewalk, through the vine covered trellis and onto the welcoming white porch remain....and they are disintegrating. The house has been torn down. Cory salvaged one small rock from whence our alter stood. In the words of George Harrison: All Things Must Pass. But fortunately from all these ruins, our marriage remains strong and on-going. Of course, there are the usual spats and disagreements....like "who is right!" - We both say we are all the time. We've made so many bets that we could own China if we paid each other up. I bet I am more right than Cory....he say he is...Betcha! After we had our fill of blissful memories mixed with shocking truths, we made our way back to the RV. "Small World" time, again. The couple in the RV next to us were from Dansville, NY.....a town about 40 miles from Wellsville. They own the funeral home in town. They had been in Florida earlier this year and went home in Feb. At that
Around the Park
Lulu poses from the gazebo time, they had a new Thor RV which he said "fell apart." Now, they had a new Tiffin Allegro Red and were returning to Florida for a second visit. Everyone has a story. Kind of like me, right? ....I have one last story to tell (the Raisinettes) but not now....you just have to hold on one more day. No pleading and begging, please...I know you are anxious but patience is a virtue plus I am struggling doing all this typing with this unbelievably rocky road. FYI: Do Not Take Rt. 95 unless you want to diet.....it is a perfect emetic. It makes you carsick.....raaaallph!
