"Another dream come true" Now let's break some land speed records!!!

In "Reno" we loaded up the car with water and snacks for our journey across the desert.
Over 500 miles to travel and we didn't know what to expect along the way.....

All we knew was that we wanted to see, "Bonneville Speedway" along the way.
But first we were making our way to Elko, where we hoped to stay the night.

After 300 miles of desert, country & western music (that's all the radio would pick up), we were more than ready to stop.
Luckily the first motel we reached in Elko, had rooms available.

Next morning we traveled along the salt flats.
It was so weird, it looked just like snow!

Finally we reached our destination.....

"Bonneville Speedway"

(Bonneville Speedway is an area of the Bonneville Salt Flats near Wendover, Utah, that is marked out for motor sports.
It is particularly noted as the venue for numerous land speed records.
The salt flats were first used for motor sports in 1912, but didn't become truly popular until the 1930s when the Ab Jenkins and Sir Malcolm Campbell competed to set land speed records.
The speedway is marked out by the

Utah State Highway Department at the start of each summer.
Usually two tracks are prepared; a 10 mile long straightway for speed trials and an oval or circular track for distance runs, which is typically between 10 and 12 miles (16 and 19 km) long depending on the condition of the salt surface.)

What a fantastic sight, it looked like a sheet of ice!

We didn't for one minute, expect to be able to drive along the speedway.

But when we found out that we could, we both made the most of it!!!

DANGEROUS? Or at least, UNHEALTHY, if your daily intake is too high? What a lovely place!
