The Trip Begins! The Trip Begins! The Trip Begins!

Us on the plane
Amber's Journal:
Today we finally left for our 3 week trip to Europe. There won't be much to write about today since all of it was spent flying. It wasn't all boring though. Our first flight was from Salt Lake to Chicago. When we were above Chicago the pilot told us we would not be able to land for another 35 minutes. For some reason we had it in our minds that Chicago was two hours ahead of us instead of one so we started to panic that we would miss our connecting flight to Germany. We were freaking out and and getting angry about the delay. However, when we landed we discovered that Chicago was only one hour ahead and we were actually an hour and a half early for our connecting flight. We felt pretty stupid for freaking out so bad! Ironically, though, we boarded our connecting flight right on time and ended up sitting on the tarmac forever and taking off an hour and a half behind schedule. We were frustrated about that too but but so grateful to finally be on our way, and that we didn't miss our flight like we feared we would. =) I

feel like a little kid being so excited about being on such a big plane with tv screens, movies, blankets and pillows and food, etc. The best part is that we got to watch several episodes of "The Office" during the flight. All attempts to sleep on this flight were in vain. Neither of us could get comfortable and poor Preston slept even less than I did. It made for a very long flight. Sweet selfless Preston also traded meals with me because I didn't like mine. He is so good to me!

Preston's Journal:
So far I've been able to glean a few things from the little bit of our trip so far. First, don't ever count on getting sleep on the plane, no matter how tired you are. My leg has been twitching and cramping like crazy making it impossible to fall asleep. Second, Chicago is only one hour ahead of Salt Lake. Third, blaming things on other people is silly, especially when the problem is simply created in your mind (see previous learned item) and everything is in reality just fine. Fourth, traveling with a great wife makes the trip a lot better.
