Paul did finally fall asleep last night, but it took Sarah lying in bed with him a few minutes to help him relax. Then he was up and ready to go by 7:00 am. Levi, after being up in the middle of the night and just wanting to be held, did sleep in though. We took turns getting breakfast, donuts and sugared cereal, from the hotel lobby. Paul was even issued a Dinosaur Hunting License for any live dinosaurs he would find in the area.
After checking out we headed a few blocks down the street for the Utah Field House of Natural History State Park Museum where they had several kid friendly exhibits, activities and a diorama of the Eocene Epoch where Paul had to find the various creatures. It really had a focus on the work of looking for the fossils in the Vernal, UT area. Outside, they had a garden with several dinosaur figures. Finally, it was time to hit the road. We thought we would find something for lunch along the way to Salt Lake City, but we didn't. We hadn't told Paul, but last night I had found another dinosaur place near Salt Lake City in
Fry Sauce
a dip we saw several places... basically mayo and ketchup Ogden. So instead of heading straight to the hotel, we went to Ogden for George S. Eccles Dinosaur Park and Stewart Museum. This was a great find! The museum included a couple robotic dinosaurs, some fossils and several full skeletons. However, it was the park that made it special. There were over one hundred full-size sculptures of dinosaurs throughout the park. They tried to place them in what they believed would be their habitat or activities. A sound system played various sounds to make it sound like they were walking through the trees, eating or even a roar or two.
Did I mention we didn't eat lunch until 3:30? We found and A&W attached to a gas station in Ogden where we had a very greasy lunch. The boys each had corn dogs and fries, Todd had a chili cheese dog with onion rings and Sarah had a bacon cheeseburger and fries. Then to top it off we saw they had cheese curds, so we had to get that as well as a cookie dough shake. The boys' meals came with ice cream as well. Needless to say, we weren't much in the mood for going out for dinner. So
we stopped at a SuperTarget and got some fruits, veggies, and cold cuts to make a light dinner in the hotel room. We're in a suite again so it is nice to spread out a bit. The boys are both asleep and we'll be headed to bed soon. Lots and lots of driving tomorrow. It is hard to believe our 16 days is almost over. It has been really fun (and exhausting) to hang out as a family and see so many great sights.
