The motel experience in Jackson was the worst of this trip and probably the worst of any trip we have made here. The non smoking room had been a smokers room and the lack of cleaning meant that stale smell. The linen had doubtfully been changed. The place was run by Latinos and the guy they sent to "sanitize"the room when we complained did nit understand English very well and unfortunately our Spanish let us down too !!
Anyway we had a good nights sleep as we were pretty stuffed after the long day in Yellowstone.
No breakfast at this place so it was a homemade job and just as good anyway.
We drove back into the town and spent an hour or so taking in the shops and history and then it was time for the road.
We took WY-89 thru a gorge where the Snake River ran.A very scenic road with towering mountains and hillsides covered in trees and a river that one minute ran quietly and then next rapids. The road had warning signs at the start of the gorge noting that it could be closed by snowslides!!!The road emerged from the gorge at Alpine which is a town ready to take
off with some swanky looking timber homes built and under construction. Then came little western towns of Thayne,Afton and Smoot(yes that last town name is real !!!)
Then it was thru another gorge and into Montpelier and the state of Idaho. The road passed thru Paris(as not in France) another town with a lot of history of the people who found this part of the USA.Soon Bear Lake came into sight huge area of water,a glacial lake, with a brilliant blue colour. The road followed the lake and as it was lunchtime we thought a road would take us down to the lakeside. But no this is USA and lakeside parks are not always on.But eventually we came upon access in Garden City and we enjoyed the views with lunch. We came across another cattle drive complete with cowboys fully dressed as you would expect to see them on the ranch.Managed a few photos and video as we drove slowly thru it.A guy from the car behind us got out and ran along the road to get closer.he looked weird and some of those cattle were taller than the car so I wasnt game to do the same just shooting from the car window.
The road then climbed steadily to a summit with magnificent views of the lake and the surrounding hills to mountains. The blue of the lake was something that really showed out under the cloudless sky and into our third state,Utah,of the day.
The road descended down to Logan and onto our overnight stay at Brigham City.
We sought out the WalMart SuperCentre which was close by to the Hojo motel we had chosen and dined on a seafood salad and additives.Strange again because WalMart sold beer but no wine.Must be another one of those odd state laws we guess
